I Was walking in the Tennessee forest today and found...







Habitat: Wood - Found in deciduous woods, growing straight from a fallen rotting tree.

Gills: The gill color is off white

Stem: Whitish

Cap: Brown in the center to tan around the edges

Spore print color: no spore print yet

Bruising: No color change was observed.

Location: Middle TN

It is 45 Degrees outside with below freezing temps at night. Looks like Ostreatus to me, but looking for additional opinions. Thanks

Yes, looks good.  The older ones aren't as good to eat, you should fry up the smaller / mid sized ones though.

Even the larger ones are usually fine, before they start decomposing. Then they get the a nasty smell that is somewhere between semen and rotting fish. If they smell good, they taste good.

Older ones are tougher, better for soups and stews than frying. But still delicious.
