How do I make a garden with mycelium?
    #19371777 - 01/05/14 08:29 AM (10 years, 26 days ago)

Im looking into information so I can plan out my garden this year. Im looking to have mycelium in the soil this time around. From what Ive read it helps plant life flourish really well.

Anyone know how to get a garden going with a good bed of mycelium in the soil?

I talked to the Boston Mycological Club about this and they said that unless your garden is in the middle of a city you almost certainly have loads of mycorrhizal fungi in your soil already.

If you are in the middle of the city, you can buy products with spores of various (sadly non-mushroom-forming) mycorrhizal fungi for your soil. Stamets sells them and probably so do other people.

Plants also benefit from the proximity of some non-mycorrhizal fungi. I've read that wine caps are helpful, and I'd expect that nematode-eating fungi like oysters would also be beneficial. For that, I'd suggest cultivating the mushroom and burying the spent substrate in your yard.

Adding fungi will help your garden.  It is done commercially with corn, cotton, soybeans, and many other crops.

Fungi and bacteria are what make the soil go 'round.

First I need to know what you are plants you are planting, what method of growing you are following, and how much space you have.

Well to test the waters itll be wheatgrass, aloe, lemon trees, garlic and maybe some potatoes. just growing them all traditionally with organic soil.

If I just mix in my spent substrate that sounds easy as hell! Do the
mycorrhizal fungi do alright with compost tea?
