Just moved 4 brf cakes to monotub, need help to make sure i did ok
    #19371408 - 01/05/14 04:57 AM (10 years, 26 days ago)

so i had 4 creeper brf cakes not fruiting. my B+ & GT are doing great. I decided to crumble up the creepers to a monotub to see if it gets something going. Here's what i did (everything was done sterile as possible all wiped with alcohol.

1)Wiped down Medium sized see thru container with alcohol.
2)Boiled about 4 cups of coconut coir in water for about 40 minutes
3)Baked a baking tin of verm for about 40 min @ 350f
4)Mixed the coir and verm together and let cool
5)Added a very little bit of this stuff i forget what its called, but it looks like little gel beads that's for plants so you don't have to water them so much.  It holds alot of water so i figured this'd be good to hold humidity in there. I only added a little.
6)Added to the substrate mix into the medsized mono tub (which has 3 1/2 inch hold on each side above sub level and 2 1/2in holes at the top all filed with cotton since i couldnt get poly fill {all cotton is dry, not wetness at all])
7) I crumbled up the 4 creeper brf cakes and mixed it very well in the substrate (wearing alcohol wiped gloves)
8) i leveled all the sub and cake and added about a little less than half inch later of dry verm that was baked in the oven)
9)I duct tape shut the top lid so nothing can get in or out.
i loosely followed a few teks and guides i found, but also improved a little.  I couldnt actually find specifically coir, the best i could get was coconut lining for plants which looked similar enough and from my research is sort of the same thing.
My question: Does this all sound ok as long as my sterility procedures were good? Best case scenario, can i expect decent results?
i currently have the box incubating at a solid 80f.  Any help would be really appreciated.
P.S.  My first 3 GT cakes yielded 27g dried and i'm so very happy about that. they tasted like shit but was well worth it.  I took a trip to saturn for 5 hours and saw all the rings.  they are all different colors btw that dont even exist on earth ;-P  Thanks in advance fellows!

Would have been better to properly pasteurize it rather than boiling it in water.

Cotton is not suited for this hobby. Polyfil isn't that hard to find, just look in any craft store or even take it out of a stuffed animal.

You say you duct taped the top lid so nothing can get in or out, does that mean you don't have any gas exchange?

In my opinion there's no need for an incubator unless the room you have them in is really cold.
