I love kratom and prefer the effects of it to alcohol. However, I find it's not really that social of a drug. With weed you can sit around and pass the pipe/joint/bong around with your buddies. With alcohol you can sit in a pub and casually drink pints and watch a game all evening with your buddies. With kratom you can.... sit on your couch and mung out. It's not a very social drug and lacks the typical social ritual that other drugs have. I still love it though.
The one (major) downside of kratom for me is that I can't shit! WTF is up with that? This happens to my friends that use it as well. It can get so bad that I absolutely have to stop for 2-4 days to get everything back in working order. Maybe this is a good thing; it stops me from liking it too much and losing the magic. I sure hope the authorities don't step in and make it illegal in Canada.

What size doses are you taking and with what frequency that are causing you to not shit for long periods? I've stayed perfectly regular using 4-7 gram doses, only once a day, no more than three days in a row.

6-8g once daily, empty stomach, 4-5 days in a row.

I have been taking for around two years and when I started out I had issues with poops also.
After a month or so of regular use it goes away and I actually have perfect shits that are never sloppy.

Kratom gives me the WORST (literally) smelling farts I've ever had and also gives me diarrhea. Strange that it does the exact opposite to me than it does to you.

So I resurrect this thread. Though I typically post late at night so this journaling tends to get buried. I am currently taking a quick kratom break as over the last 11 days I've only had two days off from kratom. Tolerance is a tricky obstacle(towards an ideal euphoria).
Tonight I've had about 3/5ths of a standard 750ml bottle or wine. This is an Agrentinian Malbec. I am working on the last 2/5ths now. If it were a coloring book, the child would draw strong lines around the central character on the ethanol page; Forest Green and Burnt Sienna and Violet Blue. The boundaries of self seem to be the central experience of the alcohol if not the theme.
On kratom I am merged with the moment and my surroundings and the self are merely a grateful vehicle amidst a brief occasion of eternity.
Both experiences start similarly. With a red wine the hope is that I will have selected a bottle the contents of which will spill from the lip of a glass into a ball that rests momentarily upon the palate and then unfolds the flavors of ancient fruit all at once indecipherable. With the southeast asian leaf my method is a bit more crude, a folded paper apparatus in the tradition of a paper airplane delivers several ideally bitter grams at a time and is washed down with a tea intended to further unwind.
Up to this point I've attempted to draw a distinction between these substances though with a bit of curiosity-induced googling I realize that both ethanol and Mitragyna speciosa are calcium channel blockers. I remember the first time I took DXM, about, 1XXmg, and it felt like an idealized alcohol buzz. And I've read about using dxm to potentiate or help diminish tolerance with kratom and in my limited experience with this 15mg DXM does increase somatic effect though it pushes it towards intoxication and 30mg of DXM combined with 6-8mg kratom feels more like 150mg of DXM. The DXM brings out the dissociative side of the kratom. And then we have alcohol which also has NMDA-antagonist effects so I am comparing two apples to apple-flavored oranges.
I do declare that alcohol promotes laughter and outright madness at moderate to sedative dose. I also feel that Communication should be and is advocated whilst intoxicated on this wine, hence my blabbering syntacx. And while a thorough intoxication of drink can propel You into an existential furor it is also usually tempered by a period of misery and it's not nearly as euphoric.
I reiterate that kratom is a mysteriously wonderful plant and I can only hope that I can strategically stumble into a viable pattern of use that will not permanently diminish its subtly magnificent effects.

The fact that kratom is so easily taken and the intoxication so easily put on the back burner keeps this one of the toughest drugs I've ever tried monitoring. I'm going on ~2 years of essentially multiple daily uses. Still love the plant and while doses late in the day don't do much for me but keep my state of mind going and hold back withdrawals, that morning dose is so beautiful every single time (unless I've drank the night before.)

Huh, so you haven't noticed a diminishing of euphoria or effect in general after years of daily use? How has the amount of material you need to consume changed?

I have been using daily and my doses are skyrocketing and effects diminishing. It's really important not to use it more than 3-4 days a week or it will lose its magic.
I need to take a few weeks off then start using only 3 days a week.
