    #19370982 - 01/05/14 12:46 AM (10 years, 26 days ago)

Hi all
first off I would like to thank shroomery and there members for all there great advise and tips and tricks.

If done sum brf cakes and had great success. Did 28 cakes no contams and got about 120g dry from a ms syringe

So I would like 2 do monotubs now. I looked around found sum tecs that I would like to follow and that looks great

so this is what I thought ill do

1)  monotub tek (ohmatic ) to build the monotub
2) ◾How I prepare WBS (frankhorrigan)
3) substrate? I wanted to use coir/verm but where I live u cant get coir. (so whats the next best thing after coir)
any help would be appresiated

Vermiculite is a non-nutritious silicate, it is used primarily as a way to hold more water within your substrate, you could technically just go all spawn / coir , but make your substrate deeper than normal so that you have enough moisture, the upside to leaving out vermiculite is that you can be proud to have produced all organic.

In addition franks write ups on Frank's Bulk Spawning Tek (in a monotub), Frank's Proper Pasteurization Tek 3.0, How to dial in your monotubs like a boss is essential reading in my opinion.

Follow this and you will not go wrong How Frank gets shit done!

Maybe someone could chime in on how much Verm/peat moss/calcium carbonate you might need for a monotub? I have only used the following with casings but it works great! I dont see why you couldn't use it for a mono tub setup? Check out the 50/50+ casing tek in the casings section under mushroom cultivation for an idea of what you would need. You can get all the stuff at lowes/Home Depot/local pharmacy. I don't have any nurseries for gardening in my area so finding horticultural grade calcium carbonate was difficult, until I found out they sell it in pill form as a calcium supplement in its raw form. Grind it up in a coffee grinder and your good! Then just stick with the tek! I think I am going to try this in a mono tub once I have the space :frown:

My bad your right. I did more research on mono tubs and some people who are "casing" a big tub refer to it as a mono tub but I guess that isn't right because it is technically a large casing. But I suppose a true mono tub is a completely new nutritional substrate for which mycelium to grow on. Having the whole substrate consumed by mycelium and supplying it more nutrients is different than just casing, even though they can both use big large tubs. Check it out, learn something new every few hours on this site!
