Does this PF Tek work?

After what seems like a lot of research over the past couple of months I've decided I want to try growing, but I am learning from what you guys may consider to be a sort of outdated tek. The reason I'm asking about it is because I've got it memorized and feel like I'm ready. Just worried about it's old date, is all.
here's the website: http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_mmgg.shtml
After further research I am thinking that a perlite terrarium with dunk and roll is going to work better for me than any sonic humidifier setup as the site suggests, so I was going to substitute that in. I'm also pretty broke, and would much rather find a way to sterilize in a large pot than with a pressure cooker. I've heard that this will be O.K. as long as I am just using the BRF & Vermic.
But other than that, I was wondering how valid you guys think the information on the old erowid guide is and whether I should go through with that or try to continue learning a bit more before I start.
I'm just looking for some pointers if you guys think it's NOT the way to go, because frankly I was doing a lot of reading from that guide and when I came here my common sense was offset by the overwhelming amount of information on growing.
Thanks so much for your feedback.

Thanks. Yeah, I saw these videos as well, and was happy to see a lot of the content was consistent to what I've been learning about.

It's pretty hard to mess up a PF tek. There's some more recent information on this site, but the basics are the same. Me personally I use a lid with a filter and four injection holes with silicone on them, and that's probably over kill. I've seen some people that literally just have one 1/2 hole in the middle. As far as the SGFC, it's a safe, proven method. I personally like the hydroponic chamber, (as opposed to ultrasonic) but once you get the the point of birthing the cakes, you're pretty much just setting up a good environment for them to fruit; so whatever seems easiest to maintain will likely work.

From all of the info I have read on PF tek (which is ALOT) the technique hasn't changed much at all since the first implementation (might I add, PLEASE use the SGFC tek and not an aquarium with a drip shield!! Get some perlite, a clear box, some drill bits and you will be happy!!) Cultivators may put their own personal spin on things that end up leading to improvements and addition of steps to a revised PF tek write up, but regardless the tek is pretty much the same. As the saying goes "each to their own" this tek is susceptible to personal experience tweaks. Basically whatever works well for you. Just know that if you follow the tek to the "T" for your first time, you should succeed and these are the areas of experience it will definitely help you in after your first harvest:
- you have a chance to observe the mushroom grow cycle for what it is. You get to interact with it in a fairly contaminate free way. - when you finally succeed at your first PF tek, you get to appreciate the "time" certain things take for your possible next round. This is a crucial thing to understanding when moving to grains/LC and spawning to casings etc (you need more time and skill to be more clean!) - your ability to decide and choose between basic sterile processes and procedures will come much easier after your first time - you will have a better understanding of the MANY write ups and procedures listed here on the shroomery! You will be able to find info much easier because you will know what info to look for based on your circumstances, not just the finding of others.
Hope this helps, have fun! I know I do!!!

Ha my wife just read what I wrote up and basically put it like this: reading the forums is like watching porn and masterbation. You have read and understand "visually" and "with your minds eye" to get the gist of the way things need to be done, and your like "yea! I got this shit down!" So you think your prepared for the real thing when time comes. Then you do it for your first time and you were pretty freaking shitty, possibly even failed horribly at it hahaha. But then you do it more and more, you find out what you like, what your partner/mycelium likes, and so you improve amongst yourselves over plenty of time. Haha I was laughing so hard when she just told me this, so I had to add to it! Basically PF tek is the virgin for the beginner cultivator, have fun and learn some shit so your better next time!

Lmao! Yeah the funny thing is, I know that no matter how thoroughly I memorize my tek and get my routine down, I'm just going to screw something up. I mean, you can only be so good at it on your first time around. I've done plenty of new things in my life where I thought "I've got this!" and then failed pretty badly. So yeah, I feel ya man!
Thanks for the advice so far everybody.

If you follow it to the letter you will be fine. The reason the method is so popular is that it's pretty much fool proof if you do everything exactly as in those videos.
Just don't wipe your injection needle with alcohol after you flame sterilize.
