Even the tigers are terrorists..
    #1937061 - 09/21/03 03:56 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

It's ok, the right-wingers don't need to worry, it has been established the tiger had al-qaeda links...

After drunken party, US soldier kills tiger

The Americans are finding the going tough in Iraq.

After attracting bad publicity by mistakenly killing civilians, the US troops seem to have gone one step further.

An American soldier shot and killed a rare Royal Bengal tiger in Baghdad Zoo during a drunken party on Thursday night, a news agency reports

"The soldiers arrived in the evening with food and beer, accompanied by a group of Iraqi police officers," head of the zoo Adel Salman Musa said of the incident.

"One of the soldiers, who the Iraqi police said had drunk a lot, went into the cage against the advice of his colleagues and tried to feed the animal who severely hurt his arm," he added.

The tiger, said the news agency, tore off the soldier's fingers and mauled his arm. Another US soldier immediately fired at the animal and killed it.

"The soldiers don't have the right to behave like that. That was the most precious and valuable animal in the whole zoo. It was 14 years old and had been born here," Musa said.

The Royal Bengal tiger is an endangered species, which is protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora and the World Conservation Union. There are only 3,000-4,500 of these beautiful creatures left in the wild.

Musa also added that US soldiers often held parties in the zoo in the evenings. "We have no way of stopping them," he added.

US Sergeant Mark Ingham confirmed that an American soldier had killed the tiger on Thursday and said the incident was being investigated.

Hearts and minds Alex, hearts and minds.

--------------------
The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

Sure is good to see law and order returning to Iraq...

The soldier that did that should definately be court marshalled for it.

Which one are you talking about? The one who shot the tiger or the one in the cage? Personally I think the one who shot the tiger shouldn't face any court marshal (at least not for shooting the tiger perhaps for allowing the drunk guy into the cage) because he was simply saving a human life. The guy in the cage on the other hand should most certainly face court marshal.

It depends. Did the one in the cage escape before the other one shot the tiger. The one in the cage has probably received enough punishment from the tiger to begin with. Ouch!

it says he shot the tiger immediately.

why we've got drunken troops in the zoo getting mauled and shooting at tigers is beyond me...

it sounds like the guy that shot the tiger did what had to be done at that point. as for the drunk guy who got mauled... dishonorable discharge... what a disgrace.

hooligan.

The guy who had his hand bitten will be telling war stories ten years from now like "Yeah, I lost fingers in 'Operation Iraqi Liberation'". His friend will go "Wow, you go shot!?".

"Uh.....not exactly."

I would've let the man die. There's as little as 3000 of those tigers left. There's six billion of us.

^^^At first, that statement seemed a little fucked up to me, but now that I think about it, it wouldn't have been a very big loss for that idiot to die.

Unless he was part of your family. It was definately a stupid thing, but I am sure his mother would like to see him again.

I'm sure the Tiger's mother is heart-broken that her child was killed unnecessarily.

OMFG. I know you are out there in FAR LEFT field man, but come on! A human's life is more valuable than an animal's period. How do you know the animal's mother even knows that is her child anymore. Most animals don't form lifelong bonds with their offspring.

I was just joking. Well, half-joking actually. BTW, why is a human's life more important than an animal's? The guy in question doesn't seem to be any smarter than the tiger.

We don't put down 'tards because they are dumb do we? If you don't see why human life is more important than that of an animal's I can't tell you why. This is one of those things were it is because it is. I guess it is subjective though.

If you had a pet dog, and some guy was trying to kill it, and you had a gun in your hand, would you shoot him? I know I would.
