RTV silicone for LIDS

I've read that any RTV silicone will work for SHIPs. This is true but I want to clear something up:
The RED and ORANGE RTV silicones are what you're looking for. The other colors will work a few times and then may fail to heal properly. They also will be cut much easier by hot needles and you'll end up w/ bits of silicone in your spawn.

Silicone is silicone, RTV has additives to make it vulcanize at room temperature immediately after exiting the tube its starting to do this where the regular silicone uses the moisture from the air to cure. Either way it's still the same rubber compound + additives for heat(more than a PC would ever do) or mildew etc...
I use kitchen and bath silicone because it's cheap and it cures in the pressure cooker after it's dry to the touch you can just load it right in, You can do this with RTV too but it's usually more expensive.
I've never had any silicone SHIP fail prematurely they all get used up from being jabbed with a hollow needle and after a while will need to be replaced.
I have regular clear kitchen silicone lids that have been though 10+ cycles and still look great, but now everything I do is agar.

I use the blue and for three times in the pc still works great. What seems to matter most is how much you apply to both sides of the lid. IME it works best if you have a bulge of silicone on both sides.

The red and orange heal much better. I'd rather play it safe. Its cheap enough and better is better. I like blue better (as a color) so I tried it out and its just not the same. The orange always stays glossy and I can't tell where I've injected through it after years of use. The blue and black have both behaved differently than the red and orange. They become dull looking and heal differently/slowly/ poorly. Do as you wish, but IMO why spend all the time making lids and do a less than perfect job. My hour it takes to make the lids is worth at least $20 to me... why cut corners to save half a dollar? The orange/red seem to not "get used up," as you put it. They slide out of the way of the needle somehow and don't get caught in it. At least mine have. The blue I used is still good to go, but I can tell what you're talking about. Maybe 5 injections from now they will be leaving a permanent hole in the port. From my experience the orange does not do this.
