Speeding up mycelium growth 1

I had a wild idea while I was meandering around the isles of wal mart the other night. From the very beginning my mycelium has always taken it's sweet time getting started but always came out nice and white at the end...of like two to three weeks. I just can't wait that long and I think it's the temps in my room that is doing it. So I bought a heating pad for around nine dollars and wrapped a towel around it. Put my half pint jars in the box they came in and laid the towel on top and put another box on top of that to shield the light. I also picked up a digital thermomator with an inside and outside reading on a ten foot sensor wire inside the heat box set up. So far it is working very nicely. It's only been three days and the stuff is really taking off. I'm keeping it at a temp range between high 70's and low 90's. I'm really looking forward to seeing it come three more days. this is a really cheap set up and it seems to work just fine. Perfect for speeding up the initial growth of mycelium.

maybe you should look in the FAQ about incubators, man they really spead up colonization and they're reliable too.

Good job. You've made one and you haven't read about it. Thats some innovation for you, but if keep reading about innovations and never experiment then whos going to come up with new techniques? Keep up the good work. This parrot I know has used one for years, but he read about it.

I've been using a heating pad from the get go. All the same, good job trying to think out of the box. If you have a large dressoer drawer, I'd suggest putting the whole thing in there with the pad on the bottom(heat rises) w/ towels in between the pad and your jars.
