My lady hath gone semipsycho from birth control!

So I've been with this girl for more than 10 years now. She has been taking birth control since about the time she met me. She used to take ortho tricyclin but they switched her to ortho-micronor and it's giving her major issues. Both her and I feel she's been moodier, more volatile (as in flipping out or crying for no reason), she's in just sort of a general funk lately (not saying this is the cause but it could be a factor). She's also menstruating and spotting very irregularly, starting and stopping with (I'm told) a varying volume of flow (yuck)
It feels a little weird as a guy to ask advice on this for her, but I'm seeing things lately that indicate Western medicine is not the cure all and I really care about her and would like to help her out in any way I can, even if it's in a limited 'dumb male' capacity. She would like to stay on BC but is looking into getting switched back to the old stuff.
I guess there's quite a precedence for these kinds of problems with ortho micronor. I'm hoping someone here will have some insight.
Like I said, I'm starting to get the first urges to look more into plant medicines but I am a complete "noob" at the moment.
I guess my question would be is there any sort of supplements, herbs, etc. that might help her? I'm not even familiar with the method of action in birth control, but it seems plausible to me that since it changes progesterone levels, maybe it changes something else that is causing these problems and can be corrected if properly balance out somehow...
I know there are some clever/hip folks on this forum, any sort of info/advice is much appreciated!

She should look into getting an IUD. It blocks the release of eggs instead of using hormones. Not only is it safer for her psychological health but it is more successful in the prevention of pregnancy AND she can't forget a pill.

Evening primrose oil capsules helped me while taking the pill, then I switch to the Implanon implant(uk).

Thank you both! I think the idea IUD's makes her uncomfortable, but so does going out of her mind. Perhaps it's enough for her to reassess.
Primsrose sounds good, I'll google it and get myself familiar for good measure.

you guys should look into going OFF hormonal birth control and using some version of the rhythm method...my guy & I have been doing it for 6 months now after the ring made me go totally bat-shit. it requires some effort and patience, but it will also be really empowering for the two of you to get to know her cycle that well together. it may take a few months for her cycle to normalize, and i recommend maca root powder during this period to help restore the natural vitality of her reproductive system.
this is the website that helped me "ditch my birth control: - http://ellegriffin.com/newsletter/
good luck!

Uh, you could get a reversible vasectomy?
No impact to yourself or her. Baby free sex with the woman you love and not the hormonal bitch the pills turn her into?
Rythm is flawed - My brother was born under that method. I wouldn't even consider that an option. Way to easy to mess up.

Ugggh... somehow I'm a lot more comfortable with the idea of filling my lady up with hormones than getting my own stuff cut on! I know, I'm so thoughtful...
Nice info, Pika, will pass on to her!
