Frozen spore syringes in Winter months

An email I just got from Hawk had me thinking about the winter months and the cold temperatures. He said he puts hand warmers in his packages so that the spore syringes do not freeze. Do other vendors do this as well? I never thought about that but it's a very good idea.

I'm not sure what kind of hand warmers he uses but every type I have ever used do not last even 4-5 hours which is long enough for your package to leave the place of shipping. I replace or refund in the event you get a frozen one, free of charge. Winter sucks for syringes...

Hello, I only add the hand warmers to overnight express mails. I use the extended hand warmers which last 10-12 hours. It's pointless to put them in priority mails as those are 2 to 4 day deliveries. I highly recommend paying the $20 for express mail shipping if you live in areas with near freezing temps. If it's below freezing temps 32F, then just be patient and wait until it warms up in your area. Also if the major airports in your area are closed, the post office will put them on trucks and drive them instead of fly. This causes more delays and problems.
There is winter shipping tips on my site as well.
Also I should point out, I've been shipping spores for over 15 years and I've shipped thousands of spore orders in the winter months, and still only a few orders per month get damaged from winter weather. Same with extreme summer heat. So it's not as big a problem as one would think, but it should be considered as none of us like wasting time or money on this hobby.
With this extreme winter weather hitting the NE and midwest USA, I'm carefully watching temps in these areas and holding orders until Thursday and Friday to ship as it's suppose to start warming up Friday.
I ship out of Arizona so all orders going to the states where it's warm enough are still shipping out as normal.

Thats a good point i never thought of. Like seeds though does the temperature flux either hot or cold effect the spore itself?

agreed I think most problems come from freezing and thawing and so on it will break the spores down I think one freeze does not kill the syringe so with that said the quick option of shipping is always the best choice!
