Your friend is a bullshitter.
There is no spray which will get rid of mushrooms in a field, and if it were, AU wouldn't allow it anyway. Besides, fungicides affect spores not live mycelium or mushrooms. If anyone had a backpack sprayer in a cow field he was most likely spraying herbicide to 'protect' the pasture grass from broad leaf weeds.
Patches often stop producing after a time, but a satellite patch or two will usually pop up nearby. RR http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17794550#17794550
Two things. One, fungicides only stop spore germination. If you're inoculating with live culture, it will have little effect on the mycelium. It may not be too good for your health, but it won't hurt your culture.
Two, you don't need grass seed for sclerotia. Some of the early growers tried it on grass seed and since it worked, they thought that was the only way. Rye berries are half or less the price of grass seed and work better. I'd suggest using them instead. RR http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12199198#12199198

I'm sure it will be fine. the mycelium is growing on all natural popcorn{which isn't organic I'm pretty sure}

I'm going back to wheat bought from the local pet shop after my rye became infested with weevils. It's relatively cheap, and I am more familiar with it than I was with the rye anyway. As for reviving... I had to fall back on some colonised/dried grain that, as luck would have it, I had kept a few remnants of from previous grows, such as these...

... as, try as I may, I couldn't get any growth on agar using spores.
Put a couple on agar and :cross fingers: the grain re-hydrates and the myc reanimates. Something like this>

Believe it or not, those above, becomes Something usable, like this.
Those few grains that stick to the bottom of your jars are worth keeping as they last IME, at least three years.

This is what I purchased and I was wondering if I rinsed it then soaked it for 24 hours, boil it for ten minutes then strain for maybe five all while shaking the strainer? would this be adequate in hydrating the cereal? I feel like this stuff will crumble up nicely for spawning. Probably why it caught my eye.

you should go to your local grocery store and buy rye grain, usually at a health store, or even if you you have nice grocery stores. Its cheap, and a million times better, at the worst use grass seed.
G2G would be best.
G to LC is bad if you are low tek and not super sterile.

I would not simmer or boil crushed grains. Soaking in hot water would be good enough probably. You can always test the moisture content before pressure cooking by weighing, drying and re weighing a sample. The ratio of dry to wet is the percent of moisture, which should be around 60 I would guess
