    #1935474 - 09/20/03 12:58 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

Thanks.

good luck in your searching, just keep in mind translations and true meanings of writters change over a long time period. and thats if what they were writing in the first place was even true. peace

The reason I ask, is because I saw The Crow the other night. And the part where he says "I have a joke, Jesus walkes into a hotel, puts three nails on the counter and says, can you put me up for the night"

Is it because he needs another nail, so he has to stay in a hotel instead? I really should read the bible on day so all the allusions in western literature make sense.

The Gospel of John is the most detailed about Jesus's life. I suggest you read the whole book, not just where Jesus was crucified. You could learn a lot...

No, they used a nail in each hand, and stacked his feet and put one through both of them. He meant 'put me up for the night' as in hang me with these three nails.

Actually, many theologian nowadays believe that the nail actually went through the wrist. In Biblical times the "hand" constituted up to the middle of the forearm.

yea, right between the two bones in the forearm. that way the flesh could rip, but the bones would stop the arm from being ripped right in half by the wieght of your body.

That's exactly right! It's another case of how one's expectations effect one's religious experience. Ian Wilson's 'The Shroud of Turin' and more modern books show how the small bones of the wrist can be parted to allow a nail through, and then the tendons snap closed around the nail. Corpses have been crucified to prove that their weight could be supported in this way. The palm won't work unless the body is also tied to the cross-beam.

The Romans had several different ways of crucifying people. Sometimes it was through the palms with the arms tied, sometimes through the wrist. Here are some other things that happened during Christ's crucifixtion:

1. Christ was naked while being beaten, carrying his cross, and hanging on the cross. Crucifixtion was not only a death penalty, but the ultimate humiliation as well.

2. He was beaten with a Cat-of-nine-tails for a long amount of time. Some scholars say he was only beaten 39 times, to near death, bacause 40 would be death. But this is the "law" of the Jews, the Romans could have whipped him up to 200 times. In other words, he was most likely hanging on the cross with his intestines just about to fall out.

Most of you know that I am a Christian, and Christians are supposed to share their faith with others to bring them to Christ. I'm so very sorry about the way fellow Christians (whether they truly are or not) have been over the years, and recently. But many people do not truly realized what Christ did for them.

The Bible contains:
1. Exotic sex stories (Song of Solomon)
2. How to live a fulfilled life
3. How to be a better person
4. Supernatural events
5. The ultimate truth.

Even many Christians (including me) do not know as much about the Bible as we should. I've been doing daily Bible readings and have learned a lot recently. If you truly want to learn more about the Bible, start with John. Keep reading the NT until you think you understand it. Nelson's Study Bible is my favorite, because at the bottom of the page it explains the verses. After you finish reading the NT, move to the OT.
