Germinating papaver somniferum seeds?

SWIM is curious of different ways to germinate papaver somniferum seeds, SWIM doesn't have access too perlite or vermiculite, and wants to germinate these seeds directly where SWIM wants to grow them, how much water and sunlight do they need? And roughly how long would it take for them to sprout?

dafuq did i just read, swim , swim, swim.
Firstly you wont get them growing in perlite or vermiculite, they need to be grown just after the last frost, they need a cool/colder period for germination. You sow them under a few inches of soil water every now and then. In spring you should see sprouts and they grow fine in direct sunlight.

Actually just toss em on top of the soil, don't bury them, then you'll want to keep the soil as moist as you can until they sprout.Use a water hose with the mist option if available.

I've also found that amending the soil, and mixing in a lot of sand really helps well too.Although it's not necessary.

thanks mate that's what I thought but just needed to make sure, as most people I know mix soil with vermiculite and sprout them indoors

You may have a bit of a problem planting them while you're busy swimming (if you're worried about posting on here use a proxy). When you're ready to germinate I do it the same way as the poster above. I just sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil and cover the pot with a piece of plastic wrap. In a couple days they'll germinate and you'll want to remove the plastic wrap. You can either transplant to individual pots or just thin them out so they each have space to grow.

No problemos,it's much easier just to grow them outdoors

With this method you gotta watch out for those bastard birds eating them. Dad has grown poppies for close to 30 years, the method i described hes always had amazing flushes.

Buy a jar of seeds in your local grocery store and remove the lid.. you turn it upside down and pour a bucket of water on it.. completly legal over here.. lol.. opium poppies ok.. marihuana.. not a chance in hell..
