I have said this repeatedly in this thread. The climate is always changing. It is almost always because of you. Sometimes it is a giant asteroid or huge volcano but it is almost always you.

This has interesting comments
Quote:
We know that the temp in cities is greater than that outside of cities b/c pavement and building absorb heat during the day and re-radiate it at night. (in fact, it not uncommon to see 2-3 degree differences consistantly only 10 miles outside of a city) My question is: Couldn't global warming be caused by the population explosion and be a result of more pavement/asphalt/steel structures in the world and NOT the result of CO2 emmisions from my neighbor's SUV?

Read the entire paper, dude. This is saying that climate change is real and happening but that the heat is transferring from the air to the water due to rising rising sea levels.
Quote:
Approximately 90% of the heat trapped in the Earth system by increases in atmospheric greenhouse gases will eventually be stored in the ocean. The ocean heat content is a function of the huge mass of water that is in communication with the surface, and the massive thermal capacity of water compared to air.
see Figure 18 on page 23
Figure 18: Change in globally averaged annual ocean heat content (blue) for the upper 700 m of the ocean and global average near-surface temperature (black) relative to 1970-2011. The shaded regions show the uncertainty in the observational estimates. (Source: HadCRUT4, Met Office)
If the sea temp rises by another 3 degree Celsius the tropical rainforests are going to become deserts again and everything north of Oklahoma is going to be Tundra.

Right, it is a RELATIVELY warm water current, and when unusually cold water is released into, cold weather is the result

The fact that people are flipping out over what may be record cold kinda shows how unusual record cold really is. We probably won't even break a record in this area from this, but nobody talks about that fact that two weeks ago we had a record high. We are used to record highs because the planet is warming. Record cold is shocking.

When the air is this cold, the lakes end up moderating the leeward temps quite a bit.

You don't care about anything but dogma and nose rings, as in the one you are being led around by.
Here's the summary of the report:
Quote:
The observations show that: A wide range of climate quantities continue to show changes. For instance, we have observed a continued decline in Arctic sea ice and a rise in global sea level. These changes are consistent with our understanding of how the climate system responds to increasing atmospheric greenhouse gases. Global mean surface temperatures remain high, with the last decade being the warmest on record. Although the rate of surface warming appears to have slowed considerably over the most recent decade, such slowing for a decade or so has been seen in the past in observations and is simulated in climate models, where they are temporary events.

This is really, really rich. Check out figure 4 on page 10 of your report and tell me that trend isn't positive.

But sure, (I don't know exactly what point is which year, but) if you go back 15 years there's been no net gain:

But if you go back what I assume is *16* years, well then waddya know there's been a lot of warming lately:

There's too much noise for a 15-year trend to be broadly indicative of anything except what happened over those 15 years. I can find plenty of 15-year spots that show little, none, or negative warming, but that's obviously an intentionally distorted way to look at that graph.

You guys know that ship that got stuck in the ice on it's way to Antartica? The one which Indica's ship went and saved. Any idea what kind of research they were doing? I wonder why they don't mention it more in the news?
They were doing Climate Change research. How funny is it that they got stuck in ice and couldn't even make it to their destination because the antarctic ice sheets are spreading and growing faster than they have in decades. Even the icebreaker that went out to save them also got stuck in ice.
Must be because all the seawater got so hot... Wonder how the reports are going to read?

I haven't seen anything. I think they were only on their way out when the whole thing happened. So they got sidetracked with that. I would think they're now doing what they set out to do in the first place.
