Trees (and all vegetation alike) are the TRUE savior of mankind!!!
    #19362561 - 01/03/14 09:29 AM (10 years, 28 days ago)

Ok, so many Americans and people across the world go out and buy Christmas tress for Christmas. For that reason there is Christmas tree industry at Christmas time. But if you think about it, the fact that there even is a Christmas tree industry is sick. That means that we humans are making profit off of killing, brutally murdering, trees. Other living beings who inhabit this world with us. And for what is it all for? To give your house that 'Christmas feel'? Or 'because it's tradition'?

Well, the human race has had many 'traditions'. Many 'ways things used to be'. Sure, in the Antebellum south, the white men enslaved the black man. Slavery is part of human history, and has been experienced throughout many difference societies and periods. So, it can easily be seen that humans have a fondness of the more 'violent traditions'. And the mass killings of forests is surely violent and cruel and evil in everyway.

And in the case of Christmas tree, we don't just kill them, we torture them. We cut them from Mother Earth at the life line, pluck them from the Earth, and shove them into homes. Homes that have heating systems and unusual, often irregular patterns of light. We throw the tree into a totally different, and terrifying environment. As the tree sits three, in a tree holder, dying, rotting away slowly. The Christmas tree is nature's equivalent of the crucifixion!! And oh how the Christians mourn the crucifixion of their precious savior, yet they rejoice in the crucifixion of the tree. The tree is the real savior of mankind!

Oh boy. If killing a plant is murder, what is it that you eat exactly? Christmas trees are farmed. They plant them in a field and a certain amount of time later they are harvested.

Trees would do the same to you if they were conscious OP.

I say burn down all the forests and put in strip malls and Walmarts.

I agree!

The tree is the saviour of the planet.

It is a crime and a sin to cut down a loving tree just for a temporary ornament.

For shame!

You don't know it was loving. It might have been a dickish tree that deserved being decapitated and humiliated with gay (in the original sense of the word) decorations.
Besides, talk like this is hypocritical when it comes from omnivores.

No. Eating something to sustain your body is much less frivolous than killing a life form just for ornamentation.

Killing a deer to feed your family is one thing, killing a deer to hang its carcass on your wall for a week because you like the way it looks is another.

Likwise, cutting down a tree to burn in a fire to keep your family warm through the cold winter is one thing.

Cutting down a tree to stand it in your living room for a week and then throw it in the trash is another.

Killing a tree that could live to be a hundred years old just to toss it in a dumpster after a week as an ornament is frivolous, selfish and arrogant. It lacks compassion and wisdom.

Unless you're starving, killing an animal for food is just as frivolous as killing an animal for entertainment. Trees are barely conscious, animals much more so. Killing a tree is as much a murderous act as the morning-after pill.

Sure, christmas trees are a senseless waste of trees, and ridiculous, but even if you're gonna focus on a waste of trees the wrapping paper industry must be much more of a monster in that context.

Paper comes from commercial tree farms. It's not like they're cutting down majestic redwoods and turning them into printer paper.

If those tree farms were not cut down they would eventually grow into climax stage forests, more than 90 percent of which have now been destroyed. Global forest cover is down 50%. Deforestation is a massive problem, and in order to stop it we need to stop cutting down trees and allow new old growth forests to develop.

Depends on who's doing it and where, but yeah in many places lumber companies are required to replant what they have harvested. During most of that 60-80 years they are just left alone for the most part, and form a habitat for animals etc. Herbicides are used but only at the beginning.

The big problem with the pulp industry is not removing the trees, but all the crap the pulp plants dump into the rivers.
