Depends. For a large mono I would go thicker as the bulk sub is whats providing the humidity. For a tray in a SGFC or martha that would work just fine.

Just a heads up, most mushroom work deals with 'quarts' since that's the size of the jars we use.

10 gallons = 40 quarts.  This is still normal but on the smaller side for a mono so it would probably be ok, I would keep an eye on the humidity collecting on the walls of the tub and mist when it's dry.

Here's another way to put it.

It wouldn't NOT work!

if you have concerns about your sub being to thin why not just add more sub to your spawn 1:1 is a pretty high spawn ratio anyway.

I was going to get a clear bin with a lid
Average size something that fits in the closet
Take two inches of coir peat perlite gypsum and mix it w 2 quarts spawn.

don't put peat moss or perlite in your sub. 80% coir- 20% vermiculite works for me.

if the pre mix has peat moss and perlite in it you should make it yourself. just like every one else dose.

It works with coir and verm. I have used it.  Notahacker420 uses it a lot.  Lots of people use it.

Any other substrate should be properly pasteurized Horse poo, woodchips etc.

Coir should also be properly pasteurized if you have the time and patience.  Coir lets you get away with shortcuts.  But let's say the bucket tek works 96% of the time. Comparably proper pasteurization will work 99.9% of the time. (This is only my personal experience and knowledge of reading threads.  I've used both proper pasteurization and the bucket pasteurization and honestly I kinda just want to keep using the bucket since it's so easy)

I have been sterilizing my coir verm lately and had no issues. IMO any contams with coir before the second flush can be chalked up to bad spawn

I use the bucket tek. It hasn't failed me yet but after reading some peoples post's about contams I'm probably going to pasteurise my next sub properly.
