finally some pins!
    #19359113 - 01/02/14 03:25 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

just realized my oyster straw log was fruiting!  guess it wanted to say happy new year!

this is blue oyster lc from vendor to wbs 1 qt.  then pasteurized wheat straw per RR tek. 2 hour soak in warm soapy water with hydrated lime, drained.  put into 5 gallon bucket, dumped near boiling water on it, stayed around 170-180 for an hour, drained. sit overnight to cool, drip some more.  layered in a newspaper plastic bag straw, verm, spawn, straw, verm spawn, etc till i was out of both.  verm was dry because i thought the straw was still too wet even sitting overnight and did not want bacteria or anything else to stall the growth.  sat for about 16 days in open air with heavy stone on top to compress it while colonizing.  slits were cut 1 day after spawning.

my ratio was probably really high, I'm guessing 1 qt spawn to 2 qts straw (though its hard to measure straw.)  next time i will use more straw but its a PITA to cut.  i only have scissors as i live in big city and have no need for weed wackier.

Before I read the post, I looked at the picture, and I was like damn, must be blue oyster... It likes to pin in those weird brain looking things

I've done all my straw grows that way.  That's the main reason I don't do many straw grows,

Blue oysters on fuel pellets do pretty damn well.  If you can get those, give it a shot.  Nice grow though, you're gonna have a good amount of oysters!

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.

niiiiiiiiiiiice can't wait to eat them!

i just hope they don't crack like my last ones:

seems like open air after a while just isn't good enough when they get big, despite misting.  i have them next to a cool mist now on low (no pic as of yet) but i feel like its more FAE than humidity.  i want to hang it over the cool mist but:
1. i rent, don't wanna put holes in ceiling
2. the cool mist also kinda blows air into an active chamber on table above it, and don't want oysters spore getting into that (wish i had pic now, but just got off 10 hour overnight shift....so I'm gonna stick with my beer and bed for now   )
I'm open to idea tho...(i know I'm gonna need an ultrasonic one of these days....)

yes gotta get some pellets!  any suggestions for home depot supply?
