Motorcycle or Van?

Saving up to buy a vehicle to live out of, been planning on going out of a van but now I'm considering a motorcycle. There are some obvious comfort factors at play, but only a few months ago the plan was to backpack year round for awhile - so this is actually more comfortable than plan A.
Really digging the idea of living off a bike, they're sweet and its cheaper to maintain on the road, the biggest issue I can think of is playing the guitar when its below freezing can be a pain in the ass (I'll be staying out in the country) and that would be just as much an issue backpacking on foot.

What do you all think?

More comfortable living "out of" a bike than a van?

Van would definitely be more comfortable, I'm pretty used to uncomfortable though. On foot I can carry about 50lbs (rucksack), on a bike much more

I would get a bike and a tent honestly.
Bikes get wayyy better gas mileage, bikes are more fun, chicks love bikes, sleeping outside in a tent is more fun and can ne pretty comfortable, etc...
What kind of bike you looking at?

Planning on getting something small to start since I'm inexperienced, Honda Rebels are really cheap and easy to find so the plan was to start from there. Any recommendations?
Leaning on getting a bike right now, really exciting idea and much cheaper. Shit can cross the country for $150 gas

2 wheels are always better than 4. being cold and uncomfortable are always options.

Holy shit dude I'm looking into getting a honda rebel as well, the 2013 models go for like $4,000 and they look sexy as fuck. I dunno if you're going to want to do a lot of Highway riding with them though seeing as the top speed is like 75mph.
That's tough but I'd probably go with a bike, I'd make sure to stay out of areas with shitty weather though. It's already been stated but they get great gas mileage, they are sexy, and they are just so god damned 'Merican.

I like all the positive answers here, shit all the responses have been reasonable. Most people don't seem to understand the allure of that kind of lifestyle at all
I've heard the rebel goes good on the highway if you watch your speed and stay out of the way, that's what I've heard and I'm willing to try it out. We should go touring sometime, shroomery biker gathering

Last time I checked reberls are 250cc, buy a used one. They are litterally a starter bike. I had one when I was 16, I'm 25 now.
As for bike vs van debate: All I can say is that don't get a harley. Harley's are dope as fuck, but they always vibrate shit out of place and need work done to them. a van you can sleep in though. and not have to deal with the elements.
a van would be easier to live out of for sure. bikes are cheaper and more mobile though. its a toss up. if you need a mobile home i would say van for sure. like 100% confidence van or sure.

Sounds reasonable, definitely don't want to hold onto a rebel forever but it sounds like a good idea for starting out. Thanks for the advice on Harleys, they're probably out of my price range for the foreseeable future but I'll keep that in mind when it comes time to upgrade
Do you still ride?

I can definitely understand the appeal of just going out on the open road, working an odd job here or there and then moving on, exploring this beautiful country.
Yeah I'm sure you could ride it on the highway fine. I remember reading this really great story about a guy who rode this old like 80's rebel from the east coast all the way to the pacific, fucking epic. They definitely seem to live up to their reputation of reliability.
And shit, a shroomery bike tour would be badass, that should seriously happen sometime.

250cc isn't suitable for the freeway if you're taking it a lot; You'll be fully revved on freeways.

I've never surpassed 90mph on my 883cc Sportster, that's too fucking fast for me. On my Rebel I remember going 55-60mph at full speed.

Well if you're going cross country you could just stick to the secondary highways They seem much more scenic, less crowded and the speed is usually like ~50mph

That's exactly the plan, also make about $200 per gig when I have the equipment. Would be lugging that around in a trailer, keep it in storage for gig nights.

Shit I'm definitely down, going to be heading out from the east coast to the west coast this summer, likely be on a bike

You're probably right, I'll stay away from the freeway if its a big issue. There's always a way around the freeway
