Hello everyone!this is my first post here in this thread,I have been a wild mushroom hunter and picker for over 4 years now, its my favorite hobby and I love hunting for P.Cubensis, I've just recently learned about Panaeolus cyanescens,I did a lot of research and to my surprise my field is a really good producer for Pans, in fact they have always been abundant! I just didn't know they were actives until recently!
So yesterday I decided to go for a nature walk to my favorite cow pasture, there has been a lot of rain and the sun was out yesterday, so I had a good feeling about finding fruits.Well to my surprise, there were a bunch of Pans/cyans,everywhere throughout the field!
  Species #1  Panaeolus cyanescens

    Pans!
      Pan/cyans
      More fresh pans .

Habitat-cow dung, cow pasture, dung piles in short to high grass, some in clusters, larger fruits individual.

Cap-Broad, bell-shaped to convex; surface smooth or sometimes cracked, not viscid, brown when moist, fading to grayish or whitish as it dries; margin often wavy or split in age. Flesh thin, bruising blue or bluish-green.

Gills-Adnate to adnexed or seceding, gray when fresh to black as it dries.

Stem-long and slender, smooth, pallid to yellowish, grayish, or pinkish, the base brownish or tinged flesh-color; bruising bluish at least somewhat when handled.black blue bruising present.
Viel-Absent

Spore print-Black/Jet black, Elliptical, smooth.--- The single print on the left is the Cyan print, the others are p.cubensis prints.
Bruising- blue black brusing in flesh of cap and stem.

Species #2(Psilocybe.Cubensis)    A few of the Psilocybe Cubensis fruits right after picking them

This is the bag full (Mixed with Pans and p.Cubensis)
I decided this was the best thread to share my finds since I am also in Florida! I will be continuing my hunts and will keep everyone posted as much as possible. -peace out

Hello,

I currently moved back to Florida.  Tampa area.  I am new to hunting.  I've gone to several fields with no luck so far.  Could anyone possibly give me some advice as to where to look around the Tampa bay area? I would also be interested in hunting with someone as well!

Hell yehoshua, I also live in Florida, it is against forum rules to request a hunting partner, but with that said, I have no issue giving you some advice.Welcome to the Shroomery. For a start, you should always research the two species, Psilocybe Cubensis and Copelandia Cyanescens ,these are abundant here in Fl.to start with you should do lots of research, and go to cow pastures or cow fields, and search for mushrooms growing Directly from Cow patties/Dung, you have to get experience with nature and know your surroundings, you need to be able to use common sense and others elements in order to have a successful hunt. You should always individually inspect each mushroom and take photos of any specimen you decide to keep ,and only keep a mushroom of its a suspected active/Edible you are researching and searching for.All the information you need to have success in shroom hunting is right here on the Shroomery. Have any questions of comments ,Feel free to send me a Private Message I am on here every day usually.-peace

Some of the Panaeolus do not appear to be bluing [at the moment] but those in the first picture sure do. They all look like Panaeolus cyanescens though so I would not be surprised to see bluing show up in them. You may be right, but I'd hold off on any conclusion.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

He said he hunted yesterday so they'd definately be blue by now, I just think he's picking a lot of antillirums as well as maybe pan cyan

Could be, but those pictures sure look like they were taken in the field when they were picked. Maybe he'll chime back in.

I made a request on the same mushrooms you seen in pic #4, the photos do not reveal any blue bruising because I took the photos less then 30 seconds after picking them, I can assure you after close inspection of each and every one of then, they are all Pan/Cyans, I had confirmation from a trusted identifier in a I.D request, and I also have pictures of all the stems after being picked, with the bruising clearly showing. Sorry for any confusion, next time I will make sure to have more photos of the bruising. I promise I know the difference between P.antillarum and Pan.Cyans, all the mushrooms presented had the proper key physical elements and as well as the proper blue bruising.
Thank you all for the feedback though. In fact I will be going out to the field again in the next day or two and would be more than happy to share pictures of my finds.

Cool man it's good to know your educated on look a likes as every white/tan pan you find in pastures aren't cyans, if they bruise blue they're Cyans. I'd like to see some pictures of some heavy bruising Cyans!

No they don't. Those are not Panaeolus antillarum, they are an active Copelandia species and it's easy to tell them apart because they look different and have each have unique features.

Yeah they do look like antillirums in that picture. But the blueing is there after a while obviously so I'm convinced if they bruise they're copes

Thank you MidnightCity,:) makes me happy that we can all help each other with getting to the bottom of things (specifically identification :p)
And Goldburg, as midnight mentioned, there are unique key features of a Pan.Antillirum that are quite noticeably different than the Pan.Cyans, even without considering the Blue bruising, they are visually different in my opinion, they even have their own unique scent, that's my opinion though, the easiest way for me to tell them apart is the gills, the stem color, blue bruising, and of course, the scent of the fungi.Once again, wanted to say thank you everyone for being awesome, and for simply being here to help ! -peace out and keep shroomin!

Macro view of the gills are distinct between Cyans and antillirums?

Hey everyone I live in Florida too and I am really interested
in going and hunting for some mushrooms. I recently just
found my first cube and it was a pretty exiting moment.
I have to ask though how do you guys find good cow fields?
If you do find a cow field then how do you deem it safe
to go and roam around in?

You either find a way to get friendly permission from ranchers or you trespass as carefully and politely as you can manage. Or you find public lands where ranchers have easements to graze, which may or may not be prevalent in the gulf. Locals would have to chime in on that point.
