Has anyone ever taken a cube spore print and slid it under a pattie with any success? Trying to figure out if one could positively effect the spread of mycological growth in the wild on this species or if we have to always just let nature take its course. I see what is done with some of the other sp out there and wonder who has tried it with our Florida staple...

btw I went for a hike yesterday. found only a few polypores and a fuzzy lbm. lots of wildlife and of course my camera died after a couple of shots. nothing worth posting. saw some nice deer. I scared the hell out of an armadillo and he jumped up and ran smack into a tree! poor little beastie. made me laugh at first but dang that musta hurt.

Those darn ovoid peoples have the idiot proof wet cardboard method. If only it were that easy for cubes. Wet cow manure??? Just swipe some myc between two wet patties and !blamo! Cube city!! No?

No, don't do that. Let nature do its thing.
Keep in mind there are many primary, secondary, and tertiary decomposers... and P. cubensis is in the mix somewhere.
Many decomposers produce or remove chemicals and enzymes to pave the way for the next species to thrive in... so you may actually disrupt the natural processes by flipping patties and inserting spore prints in there.
Learn to appreciate other dung-loving species, too- they're just as interesting and exciting to learn about.

... "so you may actually disrupt the natural processes by flipping patties and inserting spore prints in there." I think you might be able to help me with a problem I have.... I went out to my local field right up the road from where I live, which I go cube hunting all the time and usually after a good rain they are everywhere.. I went out early this morning after it had rained most of the day yesterday and i found that every single pattie in the field had been flipped. upside down turned over... every one... Now my question to you is, do you think someone in that field is trying to prevent them from growing? I only found 2 cubes by the way and a pocket knife that was left behind from someone... (not me)

When it rains it hydrates the patties that have mycelium to produce fruits, but not in a 24hr period. Mushrooms take around 5 days to grow to size to be able to drop spores, so by hunting the day after a one rain you are not allowing time for fruit development. If it was raining for a couple of days straight your chances increase due to more water. I like to hunt 4-5days after the day it started raining, they don't just pop up the next day after a rain. Also one day of rain doesn't guarantee you will find a lot, but if it rains for 2 or more days straight and totally soaks the area you chances go up tremendously. The flipping patties thing isn't a good thing to do, if trying to spread spores why not fill a spray bottle with spore water and spray down the whole field while hunting, just be as sterile as possible when making your spore water.

Why would you need sterile technique if the spores are just going to get spread around in a field? Wouldn't it be better to scrape a couple of fat spore prints into a two liter bottle fill it with distilled or spring water and poke a hole in the cap and spray like a mad man?

Sometimes a cow hoove can catch a patty while they're trotting along and flip it killing all the myc via sunlight, but your situation sounds like a newb who got his hunting info from the Weird Tales Of The Ramones album cover.

No, that's silly... unless some kid is out there "flipping patties" for some unknown reason... no.
You usually have to wait a couple days after rain (this time of year) to find anything growing. It's also the older patties you're looking for...
Sounds to me like this field is a popular one- the furthest away you get from population centers the better chance you'll have of being the only one out there.

Successful shit tek: find patty with confirmed cubes or pans, capture patty, place in shade and lightly water when dry. The fruits are usually smaller than out in the feild, but it works.
Don't be greedy only take a few pattys, one time all the poo at my spot disappeared My first thought was a tornado lol, then I realized what had happened and tried the patty tek myself.

I found a Psilocybe cubensis fruiting out of horse manure near my compost piles in my garden a couple weeks ago.
I use horse manure as an additive to my compost piles or I lay it down with food scraps and mulch on top of cardboard ("sheet mulching") in the unplanted areas on my property...
Thought it was hilarious. I also didn't know that P. cubensis fruited on horse manure in the wild. The girl I get the hpoo from doesn't have cattle... it's very strange.
Cheers

Yep. Those are your two habitats/medium for P. cubensis. Cow and horse manure. Never found them on horsey poo myself though either. Not for a lack of looking I assure you.
