AS long as the rains are often and the ground moisture content is high you will find them all year in southern FL. Just finding some safe lands to hunt on cam be the hardest part, farmers are pretty serious about no trespassing on land, Try looking in the central part of the state if you want to be more discreet.

Yeah, Mykes logos, I am hoping to get an ID on the orange spikes soon; it was the highlight of my mushroom expedition this past weekend. Thanks for taking the time to throw some IDs at my finds. I'm not sure about 'the brain' either. My observation post on MO is voted as Pseudoinonotus dryadeus (Pers.) T. Wagner & M. Fisch. (164698) but I can see the similarities with your suspected Laetiporus persicinus find. That said, a Google image search on Laetiporus persicinus turns up some specimens that look nothing like the couple I found.
As far as the underside on my suspected Lentinula boryana, if my highly superior memory serves correctly they were pores. And by 'highly superior' I mean failing and temperamental.

haha yeah... I really disagree with P. dryadeus, mostly because I've found these 3 different times now and the book I referenced describes everything spot on.
The "ham or bacon" smell and brown bruising really put the final nail in the coffin on that ID.
Google search also brings up completely different looking stuff for P. drydeus btw.
Cheers

941/813 seems to be getting an early jump start this year. Found many medium sized fruits on a very short hunt mid week. I think if I spent a couple hours it could have been massive. My bovine companions didn't seem to want company... But def. more activity than usual this time of year.

Idea: Bring a small blender, power supply and 190 proof Ever-clear for bulk picking in high risk fields, disguise shrooms by blending into alcohol on the spot before leaving.
Blend fresh shrooms into blue liquid in order to ovoid suspicion in high risk fields, I heard on NPR that a cop can't right you up for "Open Container unless he can for sure name the brand of alcohol for paper work" so if you don't squeal you can get away with saying your nasty mixture is a healthy pre made shake and later strain it and evaporate it to make Crystals of the gods or just do blue shots.
Or would this get you a potential crazy drug manufacturing charge?
I've been searched before and they do carry a field psilocybin test kit, but I doubt they would test liquids.
Anybody thought about this before or tried it?

might work. An old friend of mine had a small battery operated blender we used to make drinks with. got me thinking.

Processing psilocybin containing mushrooms to any degree will at the very least display intent. The solution is to gain legitimate access/permission to be in these "high risk fields" or find a safer area.

Wrong. All they have to do is identify that it's alcohol, and how they get there is loose in the rules itself.

Sounds like a terrible idea to me. May be proof that mushrooms can open up new pathways of thinking/problem solving though. Valiant effort...

I posted this on the Ovoid thread too but I am trying to get a lot of answers
Hey I know this question has been asked and answered a thousand times but I can't find a good answer when I search the site. What are the relative potencies of the wide variety of species we see on the hunting threads. I mean PNW, FL, the NE/Midwest, Australia ... Or even just the US stuff. Not many mention the Ovoids, Weilii, ovoideocyts... And some of the others found in abundance on here in different parts of the country. I would say the general comparison is to Ps. Cubensis bc most people are aware of it's relatively even, middle of the road potency. My other main question is what species are related or very similar, just found in different areas of the world?
I'd love as many educated answers as possible esp since potency can be relative/individualistic and specimens can vary widely within species and experiences dependent on set/setting etc.
Any takers?

Pgnet, I just did a camping trip last weekend. That's where the pictures I posted are from. It was raining almost the entire time though; fortunately, my buddy brought a fold-up gazebo and saved the trip. It turned out to be more of a lesson in how to keep a fire going in constant rain, than camping. The trick? Build an outside layer teepee of wood to protect the inner teepee that's burning.
