Wow its been a year already. We are getting significant <censored>fall in the 813,727, and 941. I hope my honey hole isn't flooding.
I can't wait to take a stroll out there real soon.
mod edit: Making posts about the weather is not allowed, see the hunting forum rules, particularly # 5

This week coming should be fruitful for most of the state due to the rains we had in the last 2 days. I would suggest hunting after wed. at your favorite spots, should be full of fungi. Anyone catching PRETTY LIGHTS at SunFest tonite, should be quite colorful.

Just move to SW FL couple months ago. Hope to get out soon with this nice rain we having and find a good field by me to hunt. Will hopefully have some pics to post to. Good vibes and thanks to all who make this site awesome

Spent yesterday noon at the preserve... only found a few fruits; water was ankle high almost everywhere. Conditions are very favorable, I predict a good hunting week coming up. .... happy hunting!

Laetiporus persicinus (Berk. and Curt.) Gilbertson Illus. p. 62 COMMON NAME: none. FRUIT BODY: annual; solitary or several caps attached to a solid, central, branching stalk. CAP: 4-10" (10-25.5cm) wide, circular to fan-shaped, soft and fleshy when young, becoming fibrous-tough in age; surface dry, tomentose, azonate to faintly zonate, pinkish brown with a darker brown marginal band; margin blunt, wavy, sometimes lobed. FLESH: up to 3/8" thick, soft; odor of fresh specimens like ham or bacon; taste unpleasant or not distinctive. PORE SURFACE: pinkish cream when fresh, becoming dull brown in age, staining brown when bruised; pores circular 3-4 per mm. STALK: up to 2 3/4" (7 cm) long, up to 2" (5cm) thick, simple or branched at the base, dry, solid, pinkish brown. SPORE PRINT COLOR: white. MICROSCOPIC FEATURES: spores 6.5-8 x 4-5 µm, ovoid to ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline. FRUITING: solitary or scattered, attached to roots at the base of living oak trees and some times pine trees; July-December, sometimes overwintering; widely distributed in the Southeast; occasional. EDIBILITY: unknown. COMMENTS: Compare with Laetiporus sulphureus (p. 262), edible, which has an orange cap and a bright sulfur yellow pore surface, and Laetiporus cincinnatus (p. 261), edible, which has a pinkish orange cap and a white pore surface.
Mushrooms of the Southeastern United States (2007). pg. 62, 262.
The book claims that they fruit between July-December... but my part of FL has definitely proved a few books wrong
I don't really know about the other ones- better pictures of the features would help. Happy shrooming.
Cheers from SWFL

A lot of book claims about FL are giving the best time for fruits to be found, but most in most cases of fungi, the bottom half of Fl can provide year round from jan-dec depending on the moisture content of the land.

uh-oh.. I'm skeptical though. Laetiporus persicinus fits it much better IMO. I've found these a couple times and they're pretty consistent in odor/taste, size, and looks.
Here's some of my Laetiporus persicinus MOs from Southwest FL:

I apologize for not ID'ing all of these, too... I just got really excited about "the brain" hehe

Looks like a Tremella species. It's most likely Tremella foliacea; however, Tremella coffeicolor is found in the Caribbean and could possibly be found in south FL.

Leucocoprinus species. Possibly Leucocoprinus birnbaumii, Leucocoprinus flavescens, Leucocoprinus cepistipes, or Leucocoprinus fragilissimus... idk.

Eichhornia crassipes aka "water hyacinth". I HATE removing these.. but removing/treating any invasive exotic sucks...
There are smart phone apps for reporting invasive exotic species directly to state/non-profit agencies if you wanna be a good citizen next time lol.
