What's up with Liberia?

So what's the story? I haven't heard anything in awhile about the situation.Didn't we send like a dozen troops or something like that?

There is now an interim government in place ready for the coming elections. Some of the rebels are still fighting a bit now and then.

Yeah, that's right. I know there are still small skirmishes here and there, but if major shit goes done again and we don't send in troops, isn't that the ultimate in hypocrisy?

We already have troops there, although they probably only number in the low hundreds. The Nigerians are heading up the peacekeeping operation there. Fortunately unlike the Middle East, the neighbors actually care about the people in surrounding countries it seems. I hope in twenty years we can look at both regions as the glorious origins of civilization that they are. We all came from that area to begin with, and it is sad to see both of them in such bad shape, especially Africa.

I don't know if you can apply a blanket statement like that. Africa is notoriously unstable and has rapid regime changes left and right. Most of the times, these changes are for the benefit of a few in power.

I'm sure some of these Nigerians really do care, but I'm sure they are there for ulterior motives as well. They didn't seem to be anywhere to be found until awareness of the whole thing came up in mainstream Western media.

I agree, I do think positive things are starting to happen in Africa though.
