Storing dried fruits

So i know you can get packs of desiccant and put them in a airtight container with the dried fruits. Could i do the same with dehydrated epsom salt? i read a tek that you bake epsom salt for 2hours then itll be like breaking bad meth and you gotta crack that shit up into shards and put it in a airtight jar to get it away from moisture. then you can put the salt in the drying chamber with your mushrooms and itll suck moisture from them.
What if i put a back of salt wrapped up in a coffee filter or something and put it inside the airtight jar with the fully dried mushrooms?
I plan on keepin them for a long time. so if theres a preferred better method thatd be cool if anyone could enlighten me I assume that once 100% cracker dry if you get them in a airtight container you should be good? but i think thats what the pack of desiccant is for inside, to get the air that is trapped in the jar when closed, out.

Dry them cracker dry with a dehydrator put them in a glass jar(use a desiccant pack if you want, maybe you could make one out of the salts, but CaCl2(damprid/calcium chloride/the expensive road salt) is the best salt to desiccate with) Otherwise they'll be fine without the desiccant pack in a glass jar. Or put them in a ziplock for a few months they'll stay dry, even longer in glass jars. I've never had to store them for more than a few months so just a ziplock with no desiccant has worked well.

After they're cracker dry from my dehydrator, glass jars keep them that dry for a long ass time =) I thought about desiccant packs for when I stock up for the apocalypse :P

Haha, im saving 7g of every strain i grow, each round about. So basically every tub of that strain. and then im gonna test em out in a few years. and who knows what else, ill probably have to eat em if i move. but thats still fun and saved from long ago sounds nice..
Would i just make a coffee filter pouch out of the damprid? i actually have that stuff haha,

nice little innovation tek haha. damprid between the coffee filter and the lid.
i have been drying them for almost 24 hours. i broke a few, they are all cracker dry. or atleast crack and break like so. But i popped one open, on the inside its real super fuzzy. like fluffy like myce. it doesnt feel damp, wet, or like it has any sort of water in it other than it being fluffy ish and looking like it might be a soft spot on the inside.

when they are completely dry they will be as hard as a rock with absolutely no bending ability. they should snap like dry twigs.

Everyone has already said everything you need to know. I just wanted to assure you I have left completely dried mushrooms in a quart jar without any desiccant pack for 4 months and when I opened it they were still cracker dry.
There is only so much moisture in the tiny amount of air inside a quart jar full of dry mushrooms that it can't really affect the moisture content too much. This doesn't mean putting a desiccant pack in isn't advisable. If you're going for multiple year long storage you can get by for the first 4 - 6 months without any desiccant pack inside. If you can't find one to put in after that time you shouldn't be trying to store mushrooms.

If you dont have a dehydrator and plan on growing a lot, I'd suggest one as fan drying doesnt get them as dry as the dehydrator, and they can end up going bad a lot faster with moisture still in the middle. You'll notice a difference in taste too, dehydrated shrooms taste way better, but fan dried have a lot of taste which is gross..and leads bad places :o

I can't find proper information on drying shrooms. I read "to be safe" don't go over 250F or you'll start losing psilo. Also read you can lose psilo from oxidation.
My degydrator runs at 140-160F. Been running it for 30hrs or so. Half my fruits are cracker the other are like half cracker dry half bendy, it's weird, they'll bend but then still crack dry, the inside has a taint grey color as of it's still wet, it doesn't feet wet or super squishy, just feels fluffy, and there is stringy, fuzzy white stuff inside all my shrooms, looks like mycelium. I'm thinking I should just create a nice chamber with some damp rid & call them golden. I just don't want my oz to go bad.
Will the lid contraption I made up up top work? Google "damprid" it shows you how it's set up on the bag, it's basically a bowl with a coffee filter as a lid and then you put the damprid on the coffe filter and it'll suck water Through the filter and into the bowl. So with that being said do I have to create the same type of idea for my desiccant chamber or can I just get a plastic bag put the desiccant inside, poke a hole and lay them right on the shrooms or underneath?

Make sure your dehydrator doesn't have gaps between the layers. This will allow the air to escape through the middle, not through the bottom holes and then the layers below the gap will not receive as much warm circulating air to void the moisture.
But, 170+' not 250' for loss of potentcy

Do you mean between each fruit? Or what? I have a presto 06300, it only has holes in the top of the trays

Okay, thats a bit different from the one I have, but i've noticed when overpacked theres a slight gap, millimeter or so between the trays and air escapes.
Just make sure each layer sits flush ontop of each other.

What I like to do is dry my fruits at 145 for most of the time. For a few hours I'll switch it down to 90 though, so the inner moisture moves outward. Pretty sure that's what those excalibur models do...either way mine come out nice and dry. Try it sometime!

I can pic the temp of my dehydrator but I dried then for a little over 24 hrs and they still are a little weird feeling on the inside and I threw them in a desiccant chamber. Still feels the sale but the desiccant pack is a little wet. I can just throw them in the dehydrator for 2 days I'm just scared about oxidation.
How long can I let em sit in open air before the potency loss is a significantv

I dried just over 12 OZs this week. my dehydrator was so packed that some of my fruits took over 2 days to get cracker dry. so far no one hew has tried them has complained about potency. I was completely fucked off of an 1/8 witch is about half my normal dose. Don't worry about losing potency while using a dehydrator. they will be fine.

you can tare them down the middle before you toss them in the dehydrator

So here is my drying chamber/storing chamber, i basically dry them with my dehydrator, and then once cracker dry or as close as i can get em, i then grabbed a 1/2 pint and 2 coffee filters and some damprid. I poured some damprid inside the coffee filter, and then sandwhiched the other coffee filter over the damp rid and then put it in the jar and used the jar lid to hold/seal it in place. so its basically just like the little damprid containers you can buy for like 3$. I set a plate above so that it can hold the mushrooms and then i let it be.. does that look correct? i can change the damprid overtime.
Is desiccant better to use? this worth a shit? lol
