Hello everyone and may you have a healthy and prosperous new year!!
I started with 18 1/2 pint jars and innoc. with 2 breeds, Penis envy and amazonian because I read that they require the same conditions. Took 5 weeks for full colonization of 10 jars with 3 visible contamination's and 5 jars incomplete (I put them back to complete colonization). The amazonians began pinning after 4 days and these pics were taken today with great fruiting, 12 days later.
As you can see from this pic my amazonians are on the right and my PE's are on the left [image]http://www.shroomery.org/forums/thumbs/14-001/869384749-thumb_DSC_0210.jpg[/image]
I'm concerned with the PE's. I have 2 cakes with blue greenish and brown tint and still no signs of fruiting after 12 days. Here are some close ups.. [image]http://www.shroomery.org/forums/thumbs/14-001/869383467-thumb_DSC_0208.jpg[/image]
[image]http://www.shroomery.org/forums/thumbs/14-001/869382166-thumb_DSC_0209.jpg[/image]
Do they look contaminated? Should I remove them from the chamber? Obviously I'm very happy with the amaz. breed and will continue with them. I'm just trying to save the P.E.'s. I did not dunk any cakes at all cause I decided I will dunk after the 1st flush.
As far as the PE's I read that cold shock or dunking in cold temps will help induce fruiting.
Any opinions?? Really happy to have found this forum. May you all be blessed

it can some times be hard to tell from looking at a picture but that looks like mold to me I would get it away from those other cakes just to be safe.

Someone with way more experience will chime in after me, I'm returning to the hobby after 10 years so don't take what I say too seriously.
It looks like you used tall jars instead of squat ones, and that might be depriving the tops of the cakes of moisture which is causing some slight bruising?
In my humble opinion I don't think they look contaminated, but like MF said, you could be safe by quarantining them if your worried.
Sniff test maybe?
I see your going old school with the FC like me they can be a bitch to get just right.

you should have dunked and rolled those cakes and yes gravity will take moisture from the top of those, get some holes in there your cakes are getting fuzzy because there lacking a good passive/constant fresh air exchange which also helps the perlite do it's job better, when you mist those without the verm on there just mist till you see some nice visible moisture on the surface and wait for that to go away before you mist again, i would pile some moist verm on top of those cakes also

One looks like mold, while the other I believe is just bruised. Next time use the dunk and roll method like Cronic said home fry.

Definitely agree with cronicr above...listen to this dude he knows what he is saying.
I have had a lot of success with rolling the cakes in verm after the 1st dunk. That being said I have had a few where I didn't roll them that did fine. I did however add a small layer of verm on top of those.
The biggest thing messing up your operation IMO is the FC. Looks like you are going with a SGFC. Your tek should have gone into pretty detailed instructions about drilling holes all the way around it. 1/4" bit, 2" apart, grid pattern.
I have holes all over mine plus I still fan, etc. When my cakes were growing aerial myc, getting fuzzy, or whatever it seemed to be related to high moisture content without FAE.
I suspect that if you drill your holes and throw a layer of verm on top you should see some improvement. That being said I would completely re read your tek a few more times. If it doesn't mention holes in the SGFC and dunking/rolling I would suggest finding a diff tek. READ READ READ...then READ SOME MORE! This forum is a great help but will only do so much, you gotta put in the work too.
GOOD LUCK DUDE!

If it's supposed to be a SGFC then yeah dude, like SgtPepper said, you need to perforate the hell out of it and have constant external conditions, follow the tek -to the letter- etc. I've never gotten one to work properly for me so I won't offer any advice there.
If it's an old school FC like mine you need to have some kind of intermittent forced air exchange like a bubbler or a variable hypersonic humidifier, and a way for heavier CO2 gas to escape.. And you still have to use fogging/fanning anyway.

Thanx allot everyone for the great advice. I am seeing some great improvement after the dunking and rolling. I drilled more holes and set my bubbler to go on more often for longer periods of time and the fuzz has gone away. This forum rocks!!
