 Bulk Substraite Question

Im going to spawn 4.5 qts of coir + 1qt Verm + .5qt of spent coffe grounds to some fully colonized wbs. Those are just the ratios. Should I pasterze/sterilize my mixture (pc, microwave) and how?

No, you're going to spawn the grain to the rest of that mix. A 4:1 substrate to spawn ratio is proper, it's just basic math to figure out what that'd be for six quarts of substrate.
Some people pasteurize coir, and some don't, with varying degrees of success either way. Personally, I would pasteurize it just to be safe. No harm done in taking a few extra precautions. The easiest method is to boil a large pot of water, then dump it into a cooler or some other large container. Have another pot of water on standby. Put your coir or whatever into a pillowcase or something similar, put it in the cooler full of hot water, and close it up and check the temp every now and again. If the temp drops too much, add a bit more of the hot water to the cooler.
You're shooting for 150-160 degrees F of INTERNAL SUBSTRATE TEMP for an hour or so, if you weren't sure. Use a turkey thermometer in the center of the coir to find out where you're at. From there, just let it cool off, drain to field capacity, and toss it in a tub and spawn to it.

That tek is for pastuerizing straw. I have looked for awhile but cant find anything about pasterizing/steralizing a bulk coir substraite. I need help please.....

~Fill jars with your substrate, excluding the vermiculite. Put them in water in your PC or a large pot without the lid. Boil the water and pasteurize at 140-170degrees for 60minutes. Monitor temperature with a meat thermometer from the grocery store.
Add the Vermiculite after pasteurization as it is just a mineral and doesn't need to be pasteurized. Though if I am only doing a small amount then I will pre-mix everything and leave it nice and clean in the jars till Iam ready to use it.  ~Pixie~

You pasteurize everything the same way just look up pasteurize Tek in the search engine and pick the one you like the best or can do the easiest.

That tek will work with anything from straw, to coir, to shit, my friend. It's an easy method that works on a lot of different things. The only thing that matters is that the internal temp of the substrate stays in the ideal range for long enough. That's it.
It will work just fine.

No problem, just keep reading. You can't expect us to answer every question you're going to ever have. You gotta remember, those of us who have been here a while have heard these same questions hundreds of times, and it does get old when all the info is up on the site if you've got the initiative to look for it.
The search engine is your friend, learn to use it well. Some of the stuff in the Grow Mushrooms section is outdated, but a lot of it is really helpful still. Just read away. Read, read, and read some more. There's no such thing as too much reading.
When I first found this site I did nothing but read for 3 or 4 hours a day for the longest time. I joined maybe 6 months after I started reading, and actually had a clue about what I was talking about. I only ever had to ask about the few uncommon things here and there, and some of the more complex work involved with agar.
Just learn all you can from what you've got here. There's few better places to find the info.

Ya I did the same thing. Few hours a day I would go threw just about everything I could find in the tek sections. lol like 3 or 4 times. Asked a few questions and had lots of fun. Then I went threw all the grow logs.
Took about a year but I have seen allot of this site and remembered it.
One day this site might be shut down  (knock on wood) but thats just how it is these days and we wont have this.
Plus the only thing you really own is knowledge.

I have been looking at the shroomery for amost a year but I didnt join until I felt comfortable. I don't expect you to answer every question, but I needed help.
I was planning on doing a straw substraite but couldnt get any here in MI. I tried but nowhere have I read that a coir substraite needs pastuerization for example this tek doesnt say anything about steralizing bulk coir substraite this thread is found in the cultivation archives

Pixie....I wanted to know if I should pasteurize or steralize, sorry about the confusion but this is what I'm going to do, mix my substraite and pasterize on my stove at 160-170 and let it cool. I will let everyone know how my grow goes. This is only my third grow I'm still learning.

Ive got a question, if you don't mind?
Its regarding a substrate were using.
We decided on a vermiculite compound (just verm) in masonry jars to cultivate mycelium, now I've done the same techniques as i did before with the verm. as i did with rye seed. My results are not the same. My incubate spot is prime and has its own heater, but still nothing, our incubate time is at least a month to two months old...
Now for the main question...
Should i add another compound/material/substrate to our jars in order to kick start the mycelium growth?
