Thought this would provide a good read. If anyone is confused about what is going on, this is what is called an AMA (or "ask me anything") on Reddit. Someone comes on who has had an interesting experience or is in an interesting life position and allow posters to ask them anything.
The OP produced the drug when working in a university lab as a "side project" during post-grad research.
There is also a pic of crystal
Enjoy!
EDIT: Best thing I've found from this so far, after being asked about dirty acid - "Now, about "bad acid", the last step in making LSD is the separation of the inactive isomers and impurites from the active isomer d-iso-lysergic acid diethylamide. Only ~30% of the the crude product is LSD, the rest are these inactive isomers and some side reaction products as well. These impurities are only inactive in the brain, they have many effects on the body that contribute to the "body load" or "roughness" of the trip. I am certain that "bad acid" is unpurified crude product, containing a mixture of the aforementioned molecules and LSD. Acid needs to be purified via chromatography twice, once on silica to remove the side reaction products and leftover reactants, and a second time using a chiral substrate to separate the active isomers from the inactive ones. Large, professional labs could easily accomplish this, but smaller, less professional labs might forgo this and create what you call "bad acid"."

Damn. My dream is to become a chemist but I have a couple felonies so I don't know if it's possible. Well, actually I know I could if I put my mind to it - I just need to man up and do it.

Thanks for the link!
I just had an argument with someone about body loads being caused by impurities. Another link for my debate

This is epic:
Quote:
Classic Garbrecht synthesis, starting with ergotamine tartrate extracted from Cafergot tablets. The alkaloid was cleaved in methanolic KOH to form lysergic acid, then subsequently aminated with diethylamine. Separation of the inactive isomers was done on basic alumina with 100% ethanol followed by separation of stereoisomers on a chiral sugar substrate. Total yield 13%.

Thank you very much. That was an interesting read and proved my point that unreacted iso-LSD does have an effect an body load. Impure acid does affect body load.

thats pretty slick to get the precursor he needed from big pharma, but Normal citizens would have a tougher time acquiring diethylamine.
I didn't even know ergotamine had practical uses in medicine

Wasn't Hoffman using ergotamine to find something to stop migraines? Seems practical to me.

Ergotamine is naturally-occurring.
