Are post-FFVIII Final Fantasy games any good?
    #19357120 - 01/02/14 02:32 AM (10 years, 29 days ago)

I really enjoyed FFVII and FFVIII, but forgot about gaming after that. I'm coming back now and I'm wondering how good the newer ones are, 9, 10, 11, etc.?

Any one I should really go for in particular?

I wasn't really much on any of them.  10 was okay. but IMHO they're not the same JRPG goodness that they used to be.

In 9 a second player can control another of your party in the fights. I liked 9, but most thought it was too cartoony.

There are a lot of people who love the later ones, but they're mostly people who didn't play the earlier games. Some of the spinoffs might be decent, like the FF4 and FF7 spinoffs.

The later ones in the series were short, and not very final fantasy like.

I agree. Gone are the days spending a decent 40 to 60 hours of fucking around in an open world.  Kinda sucks.

The previews for FF15 on the PS4 look amazing!  Really cinematic gameplay.

I can't even begin to comprehend the overall story of those games...

never was a big final fantasy fan though.
some of my friends are big into them however.

My man.

9 was my first and most memorable. 10 used a whole different battle system which was fun to learn. Didn't really get into 11.

I bet you'd like 10-2.

I just finished FF x-14... or something like that.

It was nothing alike FF7&8 at all but I thoroughly enjoyed it anyhow.

I thought the playstation hardware was too low tech for those games and they didnt make much sense

The only good ones in the entire series are IV and VI on cartridges

Never played 10 because it looked too Disney and 12 was kind of a pick at star wars though it had great writing, but I always say 'fuck it' when I get about 20-30 hours in

can't imagine playing 13 now, it looks like it's intended for emo girls and sci fi nerds

In reality they all suck though because they are based off of a 30 year old game called dragon warrior which is based off an even older 13kb game probably

I literally made this post to tell you how bad FF9 aged due to the character stats loading before battle as a black screen, though FF10 HD is coming out in a few months for Sony systems and FF15 looks great but still kind of a rip off of Bayonetta and the FF creators Last Story for the Wii. This can all be entirely blamed on 'that guy,' and college graduates.

Probably true, I have no real intention of buying the xbox one or ps4.... I'm reluctantly holding onto my wii u at this point, beat the shit out of the 4 games I really wanted for it....  The thing about pc gaming is, when you don't have any games you're that into, it's still a fucking pc, so it doesn't sit there and collect dust.  If I forget about a console for 4mo., it's pretty much dead to me.  Have been really loving my 3ds of late though, has a much wider selection of old school games to play.
