Is it deoxynivalenol?

Looks like it could also be "lampterol" found in Omphalotus japonicus (= Lampteromyces juponicus).

It's listed as anti-tumor in this PDF: http://www.columbia.edu/cu/chemistry/groups/nakanishi/publication/56-Illudin%20S%20(Lampterol).pdf

sorry i took so long to get back to you
you were on the right track to begin and nailed it without any hints

i was calling it illudin-S based on my reading, so lampterol is cool to know.  thanks for the pub link too!
this is where i got it from originally from google-reading about jack o lanterns a bit
this is also the chemical that glows in the dark and makes them luminescent, apparently they're not sure of the mechanism yet (not sure when this page was created)?

Okay, let's follow a bioluminescent chemical with something that a few people consider sacred.

This image is unverified, so please keep that in mind.

To make this helpful to newer chemistry students, you have to guess the chemical name, the chemical formula, and post a crisp photo of a species of mushroom known to possess this chemical (with its scientific name).

For "awesomeness upon thyself" you can list all three spellings of the chemical name. Or, teach us something new about the chemical.

Very close, but it's not psilocybin.

Norbaeocystin.  The reason that it isn't psilocybin is that it doesn't have methyl groups attached to the nitrogen (blue ball) on the side chain.  A methyl group is a carbon atom with three hydrogen atoms  bound to it, which, in The Lightning's diagram, would be represented by a black ball with three white balls attached to it.

Whoops, forgot to add the other info The Lightning requested!

Norbaeocystin has a molecular formula of C10H13N2O4P.  It is found, funnily enough, in Psilocybe baeocystis:

(Photo credit to Shroomery member Neosporen)

Fun fact: norbaeocystin is a derivative of tryptamine (meaning that it's molecular structure is very similar to that of tryptamine), a chemical found in the brains of mammals. Other tryptamine derivatives include: serotonin, DMT, psilocybin, and a host of man-made psychoactive chemicals.

Fun Fact #2 :
A. Y. Leung and A. G. Paul found that baeocystin was a monomethyl analog of psilocybin and norbaeocystin was a demethyl analogue of psilocybin.

Norbaeocystin (= nor-baeocystin, norbaeocystine) is correct. Some of you should get a kick out of these pieces:

Someone should probably add them to the Journal Threads.

Ok, this next one is not a specific chemical, but a class of chemicals.

These chemicals are enzymes that are found in many fungi, as well as some plants, animals, and bacteria, notably in organisms that feed on fungi.  In fungi, these enzymes are mostly responsible for assembly, maintenance, and deconstruction of cell walls.

Here is an example one of these enzymes, though this one is not from a fungus:

To answer this one, please name the class of enzymes and am talking about, why they are important to fungi and fungivores, and explain for the laymen what the diagram above represents.

I got lucky and was able to find this using specific search words.

The class of enzyme is referred to as chitinases. The exact type of chitinase in this image is chitinase-1 (or so it was labelled as such).

Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reactions in cells.

Chitinases are distributed in a wide range of organisms, including bacteria, fungi, plants, insects, and mammals. (Source)

Chitinases break down glycosidic bonds in chitin (pronounced kite-in), a component of the cell walls of fungi. They can do much more than that however, and they're still being studied.

In the fine feasting (and battle) of one fungi to another (in the act of fungivory), a mushroom can upload destructive chitinases into competitor fungi. (See the part in the Wikipedia article on Trichoderma!)

The image in raceme's "ribbon diagram" is a computer animation showing a specific Chitinase called Chitinase-1 (= CHIT1). I believe the diagram is showing a close-up view of the molecular surface cross section of the substrate binding pocket and residues that shape the binding pocket. I don't understand it and I need clarification.

Hint: This chemical is structurally similar to Tryptophan. It is the "backbone" of a group of chemicals.

Name either the compound below or the precursor before it was hydrolyzed.

Hint : odor is maple syrup/fenugreek amoung others

It's sotolon found in Lactarius helvus.

Lactarius helvus

I was not able to determine the chemical before it became hydrolyzed. I'm still learning how to read the 2 dimensional structures. Maybe TheMaster can give us an explanation.

Next One: This chemical has been reported to have anti-cancer properties.

And in an attempt to bring in some new Trusted Identifiers, here is a species of mushroom that this chemical has been found in:

Everyone's welcome to ask for hints or add a note to help one another advance.
