Fish Tank Bubbler as Air exchanger

My friend just bought a fish tank bubbler. It is the smallest one they sold and it is for use in a 10 gallon aquarium. He has 2 seperate terrariums that are each about the size of a 10 gallon aquarium. The air from the fish tank bubbler is fed into a sterile jar stuffed with polyfill. This is used to filter the air before it is spread into the terrariums. The air is run directly from the fishtank bubbler through the filter and then split off and sent directly to both terrariums. The humidity in the terrariums is provided via an ultra sonic humidifier. When he purchased the air pump there was no information on the rate at which it pumps air. My question is: If the fish tank bubbler has the purpose of acting as an air exchanger (to eliminate fanning), based on the ratio of pump size (for 10 gal aquarium) to terrarium size (2 x 10-gallon), is it neccessary to use a timer? If so what would be the appropriate time interval to wait to turn it on, and how long should it remain on? Thanks for the help.

What size pump should my friend get to eliminate fanning in the above mentioned setup?

any size pump should work for your 10 gallon aquarium. you'd suprised at how much air those things can pump in a minute

Fanning is hard to eliminate entirely, unless you have substrate 'floating.' CO2 will always collect at the bottom of the bin but if you can make the bottom an empty space and have cakes/casings elevated
