Unable to harvest! Can these stay on the cakes for ONE more night?

OMG I am freaking here, veils are broken and I cant find a god damn store thats open so I can purchase a food dehydrator Check them out, do you guys reckon they will be fine on the cakes over night or will I lose some potency? All the viels on the left cake is open, the big boy is damn near open. The earliest I can make it to a store is 9 am, so 13 hrs from now, time to get there n back, were looking at on the cakes for another 14-15 hrs?

Just chop the caps off the ones that you think will sporulate before morning to avoid the crappy tasting spores and getting a messy terranium -
Place into lunch-paper bag and set in fridge, the rest will be fine.
They'll be fine in the fridge tonight.

How long does it usually take for spores to drop after veil is broken? So I can leave them on the cakes? They just broke today and I was planning on getting to the store, after family left I was left with NO time to do anything, it sucked....majorly lol.

You'll be fine if some DO drop, its a preference type thing
I find them easier to store / dry / chop ect if harvested before the cap spreads and the veil drops. Once the caps spread wide and the veil breaks myth is any additional mass is no more potent than if harvested before.

haha thanks man! You guys sure help!! The ENTIRE TIME I had family over, all I wanted to do was leave and go to Bed Bath and Beyond lol! BUT I just couldnt manage to sneak away to make it happen lmao! This run I dont plan on taking prints, I plan on doing the whole print/clone thing once I move on past BRF If all is well I'll just leave them on the cakes until a little after 7 am when I get my dehydrator

Personally I never use a dehydrator. I simply fan until they are dry then place in a paper bag with desiccant. I use rice and when they are cracker dry I store them with rice in my freezer.

Thanks man I dont know if it was beginners luck or what but I am overly happy! Im unsure if I'll be able to sleep lol! I cant wait until the am, going to be pretty epic! I am worried that fat boy may be too thick to fit in the dehydrator so I MAY end up splitting it in half or just eating it whole! I wonder what it weighs!? Thats one huge amazonian!

I still don't own a dehydrator. To fan dry I lay down paper towels infront of a box fan or desk fan and just kinda rotate them once or twice a day to make sure the ones on the bottom spend some time on top. I fan dry for two days then put in a desiccant chamber for 1 or 2 days. Works fine. I haven't noticed any loss in potency. Dehydrators are just faster. Some people think that the longer you take to dry them the more potency they lose but I really haven't found that.

i could honestly second that one, any loss couldn't be that noticable

This was a concern of mine. I may try it both ways just as an experimental thing on my next run.

SOOOO! I wonder if I should let that HUGE amazonian mature enough for the color to come out? I hear they get some NICE black looking caps? However I also hear the longer I leave my mushrooms on my cakes the more nutrients they are taking from future flushes, do I really want that color that bad? Probably not lol

If anything using a dehydrator with heat seems more likely to cause a loss. I'm sure it is negligible but I swear by cool drying and using desiccant and I own a dehydrator...

Very interesting man, I've read heat does not degrade if its under 150 and I've read the opposite. I am anxious to try both methods, this wont be my first rodeo I plan on keeping this as a full time hobby of mine.

Yeah that's pretty much what I'm saying is it really doesn't matter one way or the other them shrooms will still be hella potent. To be honest the main reason I use a box fan and desiccant is because I can dry hundreds of shrooms at once without having to break the stems off and cram them in the dehydrator batch after batch. I still use the dehydrator for the super water-logged ones I find when it floods.

i also personally have never owned a dehydrator. when i have a lot, like a backpack full of fresh outdoor harvest, i just place them in front of a window fan. But also i live in a pretty dry area (when its cold), there have been many times i accidentally left a bunch of shrooms laid out on a paper towel overnight, and they just shriveled up and dried on their own. unless you have ounces upon ounces to dry, a simple window/dask fan, or even fanning them yourself a few times a day would probably do it.
but if you already have the dehydrator, itll do it a little bit faster. my main quarrel with dehydrators is losing another square foot of storage in my apartment XD.
just make sure they crack and snap when broken before putting them in a bag

Tough to say, obviously the most sure way would be to clone the fat boy, but, anything that happened once could happen again. Everyone says genetics are a crapshoot and I think for the most part they really are but you can be kinda sure that one set of spores from the same print is gonna KINDA look alike when fruited. Guess you'll just have to grow more to find out.

Ive accidentally left a few shrooms in the fridge for 3-4 days. Still fine when I took them out. Look at the grocery store for example.

I just did it both ways dew to a lack of space in my dehydrator and it made no difference.
