I have 10 mexicube brf jars (tall) that are almost ready to birth. Does anyone have any tips with this particular strain to help me during fruiting?

I'd bump that up at least 3. I aim about every 4 or 5 hours.

I hope you have plans on filling that thing with 3-5 inches of moist perlite.
Mist the cakes directly with a fine mist until they glisten, then fan out the chamber.
Mist again once the water you previously misted has evaporated.

of coarse man. It defeat the purpose of a fc if it had no perlite. Plus theres no point of putting perlite in a week before I birth.

Well 2 of my 10 jars started pinning on day 5 of consolidation so I birthed those 2. they're dunking right now and I will place in the fc tomorrow afternoon. A little sooner than planned but the sooner the better. Is it okay if these little pins fall off? they're only the size of a tic tac and are barfely attached. Plus theres only a couple of them on the edge of the dry verm layer.

I'm waiting on my TC syringes to come and that's my exact plan dude. Later in the week is when i plan on knockin them up. These took FOREVER to colonize so I bought short fat jars, gypsum, and horticular verm plus fine verm for the top layer. Gonna beef it up a little and get it to a T.

How long should it take for pins to show up. My fc usually stays at 75-78 during the day and lower 70's at night with good RH. It's been 4 days too.(I don't want to start my next batch and have them be ready to birth before these are cashed.)

5th day There's knotting on the middle 2 but nothing on the outside 3. I just placed the 2 on the left in there a few min. ago after their consolidation. I think this strain grows a little on the slow side but I love how I see every single step of mushroom growth. Fascinates me.

These guys have some very hollow stems. Put them in the dehydrator and will post dry weight. My other cake looks like it's gonna mature in a few days.

if this is ur first grow, and ur a mckenna fan...awesome dude. hope u get the 5 dried grams he recommends. i know u will get more later, but u kno...it's always nice to meet the other.
i hope u started more cakes like the beginning of ur thread said (i tuned in a bit late) so that u have a continuous grow going. i used BRF cakes spawned to coir/verm/coffee as my first bulk, it works, and I hope u will venture out in that field (u can still do cakes alongside it).
im a BIG mckenna fan, would not have started growing were it not for him. i like ur avatar, but (no offense) think u could find a WAAAAAY better wrote for ur signature... i only say that not to knock you, but to broaden the awareness of him as a great thinker. either way, awesome job man!

Yeah one day I might be brave enough for the 5 dose. I just did 2.5 this morning and got a threshold dose. I'm just really nervous about tripping like idk its hard to explain but Mckenna inspires me a lot. He's the one that turned me on to this amazing field. He said take the big leap and you ll realize there's a feather pillow at the bottom. He was right, my hard work payed off and I got these beautiful mushies. Yes I started 12 short 1/2 pint jars knocked up with TC. I have a log going in the grow logs under pf tek beefed up. One day I want to do bulk but not sure yet.

at least u r aware enough of urself that u know u r afraid, and (paradoxically) courageous enough to actually ADMIT you are afraid. life has a weird way of working out. when the time is right you will know. have you ever read/heard of the tao the ching? I highly suggest it, best translation is by Stephen Mitchell. he also translated "The Inner Chapters" by Chaung Tzu, thats another good one.

patience is for sure a MAJOR part in this hobby and I wanted to spawn to coir but I've heard it's not worth it and that you might as well switch to grain. I would love to dabble in bulk without buying a PC to see if I like it. Also thanks for the words of encouragement.

grab a paint thinner bag from home depot. load it up with w/e bulk sub mixture you want. and grab a candy thermometer if you can. I've tried bucket, pot boiling, and jar pastereurizing and definitely have had worst luck with bucket. just not reliable enough for the mushroom field i'm sad to say

I don't want to buy a PC yet so ill properly pasturize to get in the habit. I'll probaly use Franks pasteurization tek. also what are your yields from half pint cakes spawned to coir/verm?

same kind of yields you get in any typical bulks. just make sure you break your cakes up enough that they can get a lot of inoculation points into your substrate.

Also how deep should the substrate be?

that little try i have in the pics in above post is about 2.5 inches deep maybe 6 inches long and 4 inches wide. i used one brf cake (crumbled in plastic ziplock) and spawned to maybe a quart of coir/verm/coffee. i forget how much exactly, but it fill the entire 2.5 inch container almost (1/3 inch left at top). it had a lid that hinged on the short sides, not a perfect seal, so it allowed GE for spawn run. I let it sit with lid on till i saw knots and pins, then put into SGFC like it is in the pic. u don't have to wait for pins, but that time i did. i think i got 3 flushes total, each subsequent flush demising in yield, as is standard. first flush, in that pic, 189 g fresh.

some will say don't use coffee, i have only NOT used it twice. it apparently can fall to con tams easily, but i have not had an issue with that, knock on wood. i use the cheapest shit i can buy, for drinking and spawning. its this:

my brain fart theory is that when u use good coffee, like starbucks, its very oily. even when u buy a cup of coffee from them, look at it black before pouring anything in, and u can see the oil from the roasted bean floating on top. i think the more oily the coffee (which higher quality coffee/beans have more oil) the more prone to contam it will be (similar to growers adding soybean/other kind of oil to make substrate more nutritious but when adding too much it get bacteria/contamination easier, so it is supplemented at a low rate). the shitty maxwell house is dryer IMO oil wise, and more suitable for use in substrates. but like i said, that is just my stoned ape theory, no info to back it up other than day to day experiences.

How much water do you use to pasturize the quart of coir/verm? I'm for sure going to try this.

if u have a qt mason jar or similar sized glass cup/container/jar (like spaghetti sauce jar) put ur coir/verm (80%/20%) in after getting it to field capacity (u can use tap water, just add, keep stirring till its potting soil like consistency. take a handful and squeeze medium, if a few drip come out ur good, if a stream comes out, its too moist, add more verm or squeeze water out into sink) and put into stock pot that had lid hopefully. fill 1/3-1/2 with water, bring to low boil. if u have thermometer, stick it in so it is reading the center of the soil in jar. when it hits 140 start an hour count down u want it to stay between 140-160 for full hour for pasteurization, but with coir/verm u can just keep it longer or let it get hotter, because it can still be used if sterilized.
franks coir prep tek
franks proper pasteurization tek
that is where i learned it all

2nd flush picked off one cake

Here's the other cakes

This is the BRF spawned to coir/verm

When i took the substrate out the jar it was dry, is that normal for pasturizing?

not really... i t may feel a bit drier if u let it cool for a while. u used jars or bags? how long/how did u cool it? if u squeezed it hard do u think any drips/streams would have come out?

i let it cool overnight and i squeezed it hard and only a few drops came out. When i put it in the jars it was at field capacity so i dont know what happened.

Well i just checked the little bit of sub i had left in the bottom of the jar and a little stream came out then stopped. The top of jar was prob just a little drier than the bottom.

i had trouble with this when i started bulk. field capacity is hard to describe, varies from person to person. when i squeeze, is that the same as u squeezing? u know what mean? the bottom of jar will always be more wet because as its pasteurizing the water sinks. mist it in middle of spawning (its ok for mist to touch ur grain spawn), or mist it right after a COUPLE times, not much and mix it around. water used for misting/dunking grains does not need to be sterile, just faucet. keep in mind, its better to have a drier sub than a wetter one. when i squeeze medium, 6-10 drops come out. when i squeeze hard, a stream will flow out and stop after 7-10 seconds, i know that SOO subjective, but its the only way i can describe it. if it fails or only gets one flush (i doubt it will, just use ur intuition) u will do better next time. i failed many times before, and so have many others. its ok, u r learning. i STILL fail, Trusted Cultivators still fail, commercial growers still fail. u have a good attitude and willingness to learn. u still have a cakes to fall back on. onward and upward my friend! I'm going to bed now, just got home from my 3rd shift. so i won't reply if u post after this...ill get back to u upon awakening! i wish u success!

I'm going to mist it just to be safe and thanks for all this help. I love learning new ways to cultivate and getting hands on experience. Also i have 12 jars of tc colonizing now so this little bulk is just an experiment. Also i dont know why nubes rush into bulk, these cakes give you and idea of how mycellium/fruits work. I could give 2 shits less if i grew 2 grams of shrooms or 2 ounces. I just love growing and learning.

i know man me too!! just a word of caution...be very very careful with those lc's is they are from an ms spore syringe. the problem with them is u cannot see any con tams that may be growing in there, like u can with jars. so if u use one and shoot up several jars, all those jars may become contaminated. most ppl on this forum will not advocate lc's because of this. i still use them also, but i make them with a clean agar wedge. even then, it is dangerous, what if the needle i flamed did not completely sterilize or the injection port i stuck the needle into had some bacteria on it? im glad u are expanding ur horizons, don't get me wrong, just be careful not to waste the whole syringe on those lc's! do you have a Still Air Box? also, i recommend starting a journal. its really helping me keep track of my stuff, better note taking, having others critique what i am doing kinda thing, or u can start a grow log, which is public, and ends up on the board every time u or someone else posts (journals do not end up on the boards) and keeping urself busy with a bunch of different things not only helps u learn, but keeps u busy and not wondering about 3 jars for weeks and weeks, like a lot of noobs will do.

ohh you got me all wrong i said Tc as in Treasure coast not Lc. I totally agree with you on lc, i feel like it's to risky for me to even try my hand at it. Also i have another thread with the progress of those jars (it's under Treasure coast beefed up in mushroom cultivation) if you want to take a look at that. Thanks for the precaution at lc's. I'd rather take the advice from someone who actually tried it and not speculation you know.

haha I've been thinking about getting a hot plate and a pc (my stove is glass top) to step up my game. I want to do wbs with a coir/verm/gypsum substrate to spawn to in a monotub. But i want to finish up with these cakes before i start worrying about that. Do hot plates pasturize well, like a lab grade hot plate?

we used it inside a small ass cafe at a corporate office building everyday (2 of them at once) at the cafe i worked at (it also did catering on the side, mom and pop kinda business) making soups (they take a long time with burner on) and other hot items. the flame burns the butane right away, no smell. maybe there is some soot, but no more than a candle, and i'd venture to guess even less. only thing is u gotta buy butane refills. asian super markets have them cheap if i recall.
ur decision though. thats cheaper than an electric though right? i haven't looked up electric portables, so i dunno.

I hear ya! You can do it cheap no problem, and still get great yeilds, but eventually, in my case, you want to step it up

thats what i do, so i don't clog up the cultivation forum every time i or someone else comments, because i have so many things going on, it would b a cluster fuck of a thread.
