Found a dog

So...
We wre partying in Krakow, Poland yesterday, celebrating the new year and all, doing some molly, and in the morning we found a dog and it followed us home.
He's clearly trained, he doesn't wanna pee inside and he obeys polish commands, and he does have a collar but no nametag or adress or anything.
What the hell do we do now?

Go to a vet and see if it has a chip. If so, the owner can be traced. If not, have it checked up and see if someone is willing to take it into their home.

Also put up posters with a photo of the dog in the area you found it with your number so that the owner can try to find his/her dog.

Thing is, we don't have a car and we're only here for 2 more days. So I don't think posters are a good option.

That kinda happen to me once in Greece. We got to Patras to catch the ferry to Italy, and within a few minutes of leaving the train station this dog came up to us and I made the mistake of being friendly to it. It got immediately attached to us and followed us every where we went. If we went inside a building it would wait outside for us to come out.
As the day wore on I become more and more distraught thinking about the fact that we had to get on the ferry and this poor dog, who thought he had a new family or something, would be abandoned again. That is essentially what happened. It stayed with us all the way to the guy who stamps the passport when leaving the country. The poor thing was watching us as long as he could until we were out of sight. Oh my god, I got on that ferry and balled my eyes out.

Well we decided we'll take him to the shelter in the morning when a polish roommate comes home. I'm pretty sure he has an owner since he's clearly schooled and has a collar, no number tattoo on the ear though. And he whines a bit like he misses someone.
But I'm sure he'll be fine, so no worries.

Here's what you do go to the local police and explain the situation they should put you in contact with what ever they have there humane society or whomever just make sure it is a no-kill facility the owners probably miss the dog a lot. If nobody claims it in a reasonable amount of time make arrangements to have it shipped to you.The dog chose you for a reason.

I'd call up the local animal shelter/animal control and ask if anyone called looking for it. Or put up some flyers by where people walk dogs usually.

Yeah I believe a lot in animals choosing families like that. But agree that its home is with the first family if they come looking for it.

I was leaving a country and going to another one. Eventually I had to get to Britain to fly back to Canada. I don't think you are allowed to bring dogs from mainland Europe into the UK because of rabies. Anyways, keeping him would have been more difficult than achieving world peace.

Well, if anyone is interested, I took the little guy to the dog shelter. I'm not very happy about it, since the people there weren't very happy to take him and none of them spoke english so I could barely convey my intentions to them, much less the fact that I'm sure he's trained and has an owner somewhere.
He whined like a little girl as I was leaving, and I cried after I left. Poor little guy was just so damn nice... He hugged my leg with his front legs in the morning and didn't want to let go...
Damn it. I so fucking hope he is reunited with his family and that they take better care not to lose him... Otherwise I might just drive back up here to adopt him myself...

Yeah...except that the police will either tell you to f*** off with that mangy dog or they'll smile politely and then take it to the shelter where it'll be euthanized anyway

You mention the word chip & what immediately comes to mind is this eminent scientist approaching me before I was to board a train to Brooklyn, I had a party that I was planning on throwing there. Though I didn't tell anyone about this party telling my parents that I was here for exploration of new locations. He sat right next to me on a bench & he started at me for a moment, but then he removed his gaze & looked at a girl walking past us holding a balloon. Apparently he was here to deliver me news about a recent installation of a new chip. They decided to install a chip onto every dog to locate each direction it takes, and they follow the dog through this trackin gsystem to discover what dogs do in the off hours. The scientist apparently was officially declared one of the worlds top leading scientists in scientific discoveries, and he had inside knowledge of some of the worlds biggest secrets. He also never pretended to be someone he wasn't, as other scientists are prone to doing at times. Some scientists will discover a secret which isn't really a secret & pass it off as so.
They have added over 5 billion new chips & each dog that is created has one attached to it. They have also found old neglected dogs & hae placed it on them. They are creating groups that acn find as many dogs as possible to put the chip on them. Some dogs are resisting to this adjustment in their privacy, for they feel as if they are purposely insisting on getting involved in their personal matters.
