I have some King Oyster spawn on the way and am going to give it a go. That being said is there anyone out there that could impart any and all info regarding King's? Things like temps, light, humidity and O2 needs. Also I am finding mixed feelings about what to grow on I have wheat straw, hardwood pellets, bran, brown rice/flour. What of these could I use and at what ratio's? What supplements do you suggest? Thanks up front as always you all are very helpful....and HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!!!

We just ate our first home grown King O today. It was the best tasting mushroom in the world Great way to start the new year! Keep track of temp and RH, FAE etc. I made a few mistakes and have a reduced harvest. (should have chopped the straw shorter and packed the bag tighter). I stretched the rye spawn a bit thin too.
Its all about preparation and following the guidelines.

I use oak pellets and wheat bran. Usually a 20% supplementation rate. Plus gypsum. Then spawn with 10% rye spawn. Colonization takes about 4-6 weeks. There is a lot of varying information about fruiting. Usually temps in the 50-60 F range work best but I've grown them in the upper 60-70 F range. If you fruit the blocks as is, I would recommend scratching the surface to initiate pinning. I personally prefer casing my king oysters for a larger yield over two flushes.
Here are bags just cut open at the seals, scratched, then closed up with a binder clip for another week until pins start forming. Then the clip comes off and fruiting begins.
 Here are individually cased bags
Here are tubs with 8 blocks cased together.

you mention that you use oak pellets and oat bran, but your bags show something on top of it, you seem to put on after inoculation, is that like a casing of something? if so what do you use?

Thanks for all the info everyone. And Chef was it your vids that had Kings growing on straw logs? I have LOTS of wheat straw so was going to try that. I have some bran and gypsum so will use them. What do you mix your lyme/peat at?

woodland_jewel and .... (another guy whose name i can't remember) grew massive king oysters ons straw logs.
you could use a laundrybasket, but it's more prone to dehydrating:

but you know with bran you will have to sterilize? i don't know if i ever saw a casinglayer being made with straw, i'm not entirely sure why.
