Too much mycelium ?
    #19353899 - 01/01/14 07:39 AM (10 years, 30 days ago)

Hello Community,

I'm sorry of this is a double post, but I think it didn't work the first time so I'll just ask again.

I got my first Growkit.
And I'm not sure if it is ok.

Because the shrooms seem to be covered with alot of mycelium.
I hope you can see the white fluff in the pictures

Do you think they are fine or are they contaminated ?

And when would you recommend me to harvest them ?

More fresh air.  This is normal when you don't get enough air exchange. This is where kits tend to fall short.

You need much more fresh air exchange...they are fine but you have all that arial mycelium because they need more air...Harvest them when the caps start to open JUST as the veil is starting to tear...don't let the cap flatten out unless you are making a spore print..this will give you max potency to weight ratio..

Build a shotgun fruiting chamber (sgfc) and put the kit in that instead of the presumably plastic bag it came with.
That way the mushrooms will develop much better and get bigger caps.

Or poke holes in the bag if you don't have the resources to build a proper fc.

I opened the bag, but now they look pretty dry.
It was opened for about 20 hours.

How much holes should I poke in the bag and how big should they be ?

First off. The bag is really not and ideal environment to grow in. You should build a shotgun fruiting chamber if you can. That being said.

Don't leave the bag open.  Just air it out multiple times a day and then close it again. If it's just open it won't hold humidity.  This is the problem with bags. You'll get your humidity but not enough fresh air, or you'll get your fresh air but it won't hold humidity right.

3 - 6 times a day I want you open the bag and air it out. If the substrate looks dry you can mist it lightly but don't mist if water from the previous misting is still on the surface.  Wait for it to evaporate.  The blobbing mycelium isn't going to magically go away.  It's going to stay there but now that your mushrooms are getting more fresh air it should cut back on the amount of blob that develops.

EDIT: Also, Congrats on your mushrooms and welcome to shroomery!

They are almost done and I think it is a nice result for a growkit.
Just harvest them after the veils open and be happy with what you got.
They might not look beautiful, but they should work fine to get a few people into wonderland.
If you want better results for your next flush, build yourself a SGFC.

It has been a while since I last posted.
I just let the days pass and watched my shrooms, but they didn't seem to do anything, they didn't change.

I thought that might be normal, but then I got concerned and 2 days ago I took some photos:

But after I looked at them a few minutes ago there was a really big change :

What should I do now ?

pls help

I planned on making a SGFC for my next flush.
For now I just sticked with the bag with holes and I open it somtimes.

When do think are they ready to harvest ?
Cause now I have all these little shrinkly shrooms and new big ones that suddenly appeared

Do you have some advice ?

By the way, tomorrow I'll probably have some perlite and a box to build a sgfc.

They look like there suffocating. Some of them look like you dried them and shoved it back into the substrate lol Just from this one post I would never buy online grow kits. Also why would u buy a mushroom grow kit? It just seems like people who buy kits are lazy and want to grow shrooms the fastest. I'm not hating on you but if I was you id put more effort into your grows. In the end, it'll be better than some grow kit online you know. And all of your shrooms look like aborts.

Oh man I thought they got mold all over before I enlarged the pic.  I'm not an expert by any means but they really looked like they dried out and suffocated.  The fruits look like they got high on their own supply and gave up growing.
Are these fruits even salvageable?

Just toss it out.  Don't eat that mess.  You could have picked them earlier, but it appears you didn't mist after you opened the bag so they dried out or something.  They were also crying out for light, which is why the caps didn't grow.
