>two thousand - something
People actually say it like that? Oh Jesus that sounds horrible, please stop.
I'll say twenty fourteen, just like I said twenty thirteen. Just like I said nineteen sixty.
Shame on anyone who uses that dreadful "two thousand whatever" business.

I got news for you. If you say two thousand fourteen, you're doin' it wrong. Everyone here was born in the 1900s or earlier (they better be, at least). They all said nineteen-something when talking about a year. Can you imagine telling people you were born in one thousand nine hundred eighty five? Or one thousand nine hundred ninety four? No, because that sounds stupid as shit, right? So stop doing it now that it's the 2000 millennium. It kinda worked when it was 2001-2009, but now that it's not, cut that shit out and stop saying dates like an asshole.
This public service announcement has been brought to you by Gumby.
Says the guy who (before I logged in ) apparently came from a world with 31 months
Happy twenty fourteen all.
Wut? 31 months? I am confuse.

Lol. I always thought "two thousand - something" was the correct way to say it, but when you put it like that, it's like I was wrong all along.

Yes. If I were to say those years in French, of course. Around here, "two thousand fourteen" is the most common way to say it, but I sometimes hear "twenty fourteen". The former is way more common though. It's also consistent with the way years in previous centuries are referred to, which would be "nineteen hundred thirty" and "seventeen hundred eighty nine" and so forth. Come to think of it, saying "twenty ..." isn't consistent with "nineteen fifty four" at all, since the "nineteen" doesn't refer to the numbers 19, but is the abbreviation of nineteen hundred. You don't say "twenty hundred fourteen" either, so "two thousand fourteen" makes more sense if you think about it
