What's up, guys? Just asking a few questions for an acquaintance of mine. He appreciates the help, I'm sure.
He says that he hasn't done any myc work for a while. Previously, he would crumble wbs cakes, case, and birth. Now, he wants to try another method.
He wants to knock up four 1 qt. jars of rye. Use that to knock up four 1 lb. bags of manure. Use that to knock up four 5 lb. bags of straw. Then case and birth.
Is he crazy or is this realistic?

If I were your friend I would make up 10 qts rye and spawn that in a 64 qt plasti,c bin to 9 qt manure and 3 qt straw,,shredded, mixed together, and pasteurized. that would give me [you(r friend)] a monotub with roughly 3 1/2" substrate level. ...and potentially 4-8 zips

Awesome, thanks. That's what I'm gonna do. I know it may be considered overkill, but when I mix the colonized rye with the poo/straw, can I pasteurize the rye/poo/straw mix before throwing it in the chamber?

What cronic said, heat will kill mycelium and you will not succeed. Pasteurize your manure and straw mix, then let it cool back to room temp and mix with colonized rye.
