Gypsum nowhere

I've checked every store in my town and surrounding towns for gypsum an it is a bust. I'm assuming due to the season. I've heard people talk about sheet rock or joint compound. That is readily available to me. Are there any other things I could use in my 80/20 poo/Verm mix.

Drywall and gypsum board can be 2 different things. I do not trust ALL drywall because of the addition of "fly ash" in some, and others simply using fly ash and a binder. Google fly ash for more info. And yes they make drywall out of straight fly ash and binders with no gypsum whatsoever. You have to read labels and do not trust any product until you are 100% sure, and you must do this every purchase.
Bottom line on drywall, EVERYONE should be aware of the "fly ash" problem we have in this country. The EPA barely recognizes its hazards, so the power plants simply sell it off to be packed into whatever shit that people will buy and not notice. We are paying for services who then turning around and poisoning us.
TL:DR Drywall does not always contain gypsum.

Plain American made cheap dry wall without mold treatment. You can get small pieces made for patching holes . Lowes or Home depot can order garden gypsum for you but there's a 90% chance the employees are going to try to be lazy and say they can't .You can probably go online and them ship to store and avoid $1 per pound shipping cost.

I used to build houses so iv got tons of dry wall laying around. it works great just make some slits on the beck throw it in a pillow case and hit it with a hammer until the paper falls off then break it up with a rolling pin and toss it in a blender. the blender should bring any left over paper to the surface so it can be removed. its a pain in the ass but it works and if you live close to a construction site there are bound to be a few off cuts laying around for free.

Funny enough, I went to two feed stores in Okanogan county and none of the people behind the counter knew what gypsum was.

That drywall with the fly ash is probably "fire rock". It is more fire resistant and one replacement for asbestos. Its used in attached garages and sometimes its code in kitchens and in furnace rooms. The EPA (govt) isn't worried about it, because they made the mfg's put it in there in the first place. Fly ash is also used in refactory cement and furnace linings and some types of paper. Bad stuff to get in your lungs for sure.
The govt used to go OMG ballistic when you came across asbestos, and said it must be removed. After killing or injuring numerous people, and contaminating a wider area than it stared out at, due to the ridiculously complicated removal process, now they just encapsulate it and leave it alone. They killed more people than they were trying to save. The wisdom of government. But, just look at some Chinese products if you want to see "how we gonna get rid of this stuff?"
My biggest peave - I'm a refrigeration tech, I can be fined big time and jailed for releasing freon to the atmo. So, we collect it, and send it back to Dupont where it came from. What do they do? They burn it, and let it go to atmo.
Peace, FT

I have first hand experience in watching truckloads of fly ash being delivered 1/4th mile away to the USG plant where they make "Drywall" with it. It is not fireboard etc. It is USG drywall, and looks identical to their gypsum board. I was flabberghasted by what I saw, because this was after Katrina....When the southern housing industry repaired homes with "drywall" from china they found out quickly that there is nothing good to come from it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_drywall
Things going wrong like wires and plumbing simply rotting apart from fumes released.
I know its a WIKI quote, but: The problems have been attributed to the use of fly ash in the drywall, which degrades in the presence of heat and moisture; although United States' drywall uses fly ash as well, the process used creates a cleaner final product
It don't matter much to me how clean they make it. It is toxic.
And yes, you are 100% correct. It certainly looks just like the asbestos situation....Eventually they will renege on their stance when enough people get sick.

You shouldn't pay over $250/ton for gypsum. It's easy to get just about everywhere there's farms, which is just about everywhere.
If you want bags, it's usually around $8 to $9 for an 80 pound bag. I can find it in the middle of Seattle, or in the middle of farm country, so anyone having trouble finding it is looking in all the wrong places. I'm surprised people would even be looking at home improvement stores or lumber yards. Nurseries aren't likely to have it either. Go to farm stores, or search 'gypsum' and 'your town' online to find where the farmers get it. Or, just ask a wheat farmer at the local coffee shop. RR

A few of the nurseries around me carry it, but not under the common name of gypsum. Look for mini-prilled calcium sulfate. The brand I see is Art Wilson Co. and the trade name is "CalCM-Plus".

I'm sure nurseries are highly likely to have it. especially in areas where there is lots of clay for soil..
didn't know that about farms that is cool. That sounds less expensive than the bags I can find at nurseries. they were myleast expensive place to find it so far.
I have yet to find a nursery without it though. may just be my area

I didn't get mine from OG but yea they def got proper pricing with shipping on that item I noticed. Its when u order bigger things except to pay $25-30 bucks shipping. Mine is from some green eco lab type deal lol, idk found em online but same price as Out-Grow, made 98% pure or some BS and 1 pound is plenty.
