What results have you noticed? How difficult is it to keep it? How expensive is it? Is it really better than just trying maintain a balanced, nutrient rich diet that doesn't focus on what our ancestors ate?

Never heard of it until now, but as I researched and read about it I've basically been on the Paleo diet for the last 1-1.5yrs. I'm quite strict about foods and eat nothing processed whatsoever. I've noticed a notable improvement in well being, thought I do exercise more, not a lot more though. I've lost a lot of weight, 30'ish lb. Main thing I've noticed is just the general feeling of healthiness, the feeling that you're doing the right thing, the peace of mind, the empowerment of knowing you can make your own decisions and follow through.
I recommend it, it's practical and makes sense. Plus it's affordable, and not really THAT strict.

It's mainly don't eat grains or legumes or tubers; eat grass-fed meat (and some paleos respect grass-fed dairy) and try to avoid heavily hybridized fruits and vegetables. Many people in this movement emphasize the importance of high quality water* as well.
The alleged issue with whole grains is that they don't contain that many nutrients and beyond that, some of the nutrients are in a poorly digestible form (bound up with phytic acid), and that the hard fiber that is a part of them is too harsh on our intestines. Some paleo people respect the moderate use of white rice.
Oh yeah, also that whole grains leach minerals from the body.**

I was on a paleo diet for about 3 months to try it out. I hated it, really. It didn't make me feel better or more energetic and it really limits on what you can eat.... no thanks. Won't be doing that again.

I fucking hate paleo diet. I need a good amount of carbs or I got nuts.
The only diet that's ever worked for me is called "eating everything in moderation". Portion sizes. some people have good success with the diet called IIFYM.

I've heard but never committed to it.
Warrior diet kind of works for me, snack on small things during day and eat larger meaty meals at night.
Also I fast every once a while, 2 days at most (I work a lot and need energy) but after fasting my body denies crap food, dunno why I only crave soups and salads...

You guys are stating that the paleo diet is a low-carb diet. I don't think that's true. Fruits and vegetables are carbs and I think you can eat as many of those as you want.

Dieting is bull shit.
All that matters is calories in and calories out at the end of the day if you're just trying to maintain a normal weight. Obviously I'm simplifying this, but that's what weight-loss is. Simple.
Sure, you can boost your metabolism in lots of ways, especially by working out, but food is food. I'm not saying you should go eat 2000 calories of fat a day, because that's gross, but just be reasonable. Try eating more complete proteins and slow-digesting carbs, work out more, and you'll feel great.
Also don't judge progress by what a scale says, since my body weight fluxuates 8 lbs a day from water and food. No joke. Just go by what you see in the mirror and how you feel.

Most people who go on the paleo diet are not primarily interested in weight loss. The term 'paleo diet' does not refer to dieting in the weight loss sense, which is a modern twist on the word, but rather the old, neutral definition: the food that you choose to eat.

Yeah I basically agree with this, but I think it's a bit too black and white. Moderation is key; don't go eating processed foods every day. But you shouldn't limit your life harshly with a diet or you lose all the fun of getting your daily energy sources.
I think diet is very important in the long run in terms of how our bodies function. Paleo seems like a good way to make sure you're eating healthy and good foods, but I wouldn't limit yourself to anything strict all the time. Ya need breaks!

I follow some things from Paleo, I have my own "diet" I started 4 months ago based on a few years of research and experimenting. So far i've lost 30lbs in 105 days. No exercise so far. I dont count calories though, think that is bullshit for a diet as long as you are eating the right things.
I'm about 90% gluten free, I really think that helped this time around. It's a bitch to start at first, after a month it's easy. I still have random shit every once in a while, i'm not a food nazi.

I hear that the saturated fats found in animals contributed to our higher-brain functions. As our diet turned towards meats, the saturated fats found in them triggered brain growth.
Interestingly, human breast milk is one of the highest, if not highest, source of saturated fat.
Interesting connection to be sure, not 100% on the accuracy though.
I'm a big fan that eating plants is probably something we should do more of.

Also Omega 3 fatty acids, which are found in significant quantity in grass-fed meat, but not grain-fed meat.
Red meat from animals offered a grass diet increases plasma and platelet n-3 [omega-3] PUFA in healthy consumers

It's another diet fad thats being pushed by the cross fit cult.
I'll put it as simple as this. If you have weight to lose. Yes it will work. If you have a slower metabolism yes it may be right for you. I myself do not believe in it. I'm extremely active and I need my complex carbs likes brown rice and multigrain bread. I don't reccommend it to everyone. Know your body type.
