Amanita muscaria var. formosa, WOW!

Here they are again.. Same spot as before. I am going to dry these and send some spores and gill fragments out for identification. I want a positive ID because I plan on seeing what they have to offer. I am pretty confident with my ID (verified by Toximan), but I want microscopic evaluation.

Very nice specimens and photos.
If you could get a side view photo, it would be useful for the Amanita muscaria FAQ - a photo that shows the multiple parallel rings of volval tissue.
Happy mushrooming!

Ah, that's because this is amanita muscaria var. formosa, which is yellowish instead of bright red, like the normal amanita muscaria.

The rain sitting on the caps of muscaria can bleach them white a little.
However if you have found white ones, they are most likely a poisonous species. DO NOT EAT THEM. They dont call them Destroying Angels for nothing.

Yes. There is a variety called Amanita muscaria var. alba which is very pale, almost whitish.
Having said that, avoid all Amanitas until you have excellent mushroom identification skills. The consequences of an error include liver failure and possibly death. You only need to misidentify one mushroom to get a lethal dose. Before you even consider eating any Amanitas you might find, you need to be able to name all of the deadly ones and describe how to identify them.
All of the deadly Amanitas are whitish or have varieties that are whitish. So whitish Amanitas should be considered especially dangerous.
If you collect a basketful of Amanitas and only one of the mushrooms in the basket happens to be a deadly one, the person who eats that mushroom will become very sick and may die.
Do not experiment with Amanitas. Find something safer to do. Join the Army and volunteer for duty in Iraq.
Happy mushrooming!

I ate 2 grams of this mushroom today with Richard_D_James. We smoked cannibus after consuming them.
The effects were felt within one and a half hours. The experience was pleasant, dreamy, euphoric ,and positive.
We enjoyed what these mushrooms had to offer. I recommend the Fly Agaric to anyone, just be sure you are 100% sure of what you have.

whats the deal with being able to order aminita muscuarias off of the internet.. like www.shamanshop.com, is it because they are considered to have poisonous qualities to them?
