Agar ?

So I had 10 plates I separated from a MS plate a few weeks back and some of them dried out. You can see viable mycelium on the agar wedge it just looks really dry and is wafer thin. I've been so damn busy I have not had any time to just sit down and get some agar work done, with the holidays and all. Has anyone had success of transferring thin dried plates to new agar plates?
Please only people who have had success or at least attempted to try this. I could always knock up new plates. I just did not want to waste these plates as all the dried plates have great mycelium, very rhizo and stretchy!!!

i've tried but failed, i used rr's advise of dropping a piece of myc in distilled water in a filtered jar and sure enough the myc recovered but when i went to use it with a syringe on more plates i was loaded with contams that could have been my fault somewhere along the line but

Did you ever try putting a piece from the dried plate directly onto the new agar plate? I figured that fresh agar would have enough moisture to trick the mycelium into growing again. Its not like paper thin and crumbly, just really thin, like one millimeter...
And how long did you let the mycelium recover? Just a quick dap into drinking water and then place it onto a new plate?

no i was gonna transfer to a new plate but came across one of his posts suggesting the distilled water trick, it started growing within a couple days so i sucked it up in a syring and tried it out on some no pours but got nuthing but contams, i'm sure i should have at least tried one peice to a new plate but live n learn right i only put about 5cc's or less of water in a babyfood jar with no additives just distilled sterile water. but like you said the agar should be enough to spark life into it
