Well, I'm in the right place for it but how does one 'find' truffles? Don't you need a trained dog or pig to find them? I know of one person who has found them and it was completely by accident.

Like I said I can't go truffle hunting until november of next yet. But the best way to find them is to use truffle oil to train a dog, because that way they will find only the ripe ones. I don't know much about how truffles grow in oregon, you can easily research that with google.

You can rake the duff layer away to expose them if you are an ignorant asshole. OR you could dig around where the voles have tried to find them. And of course you could spend the money on a spendy dog and take months and months to train him or her. (Which I plan on now that I have a pickup).
I would for the sake of science and learning rake a small area in good habitat, I'd probably need counseling afterwards for dealing with all the damage I've caused.

Now we all know why they are so expensive.
You could also use a pig, if you can stop them from eating the truffles they find

I would not be too worried about the duff layer at a tree farm.

I probably wouldn't either but that technique hurt the Oregon truffle market pretty bad from what I hear. I still want to find some again and not by freak accident like the first and only truffle find I had. I know of some great reprod areas that have all the signs of truffles though.

No one even knows that pecan truffles exist here in texas. Owners of the pecan orchards just throw them away, thinking they are rocks

Thanks man! I'm glad you like them. I will upload the ones I took yesterday to mushroom observer so they will be big for you. I like them better larger too, but sometimes it's just easier to upload the whole lot here instead of making a entry for every mushroom... I;m just being lazy.

God, I wish i lived in a Psilocybe heavy state...lucky.
Keep it up! And if you don't mind, I have one suggestion. Mainly for the pelli pics. Try taking pictures from the top down, or as close as possible, with the angle you used on some you get minimal depth of field, resulting in less than optimal clarity.
That being said, cool finds and I'm glad you have a better camera. Your finds will be much enjoyed.

Great stuff, I'm watching!
I wonder if your "stuff" is the same as my "stuff" though I've never seen mine spread to a leaf. Yours has a slightly different growth pattern, but I would think that's just the substrate being more degraded than mine.
