I'm not sure what it is, but it's all over the park where these pictures were taken. The cool thing is if you follow it it goes from one pile of wood to the next, and it was even covering the bases of a few living trees. It's probably something boring like mycena though...

I wish I could've spent more time taking pictures of them. When taking pictures of mushrooms is concerned, it works out much much better if I go by myself or with Brad. I probably only had like two minutes to take my gear out, set it up, and take as many pictures as I can.

Some of the spots i went to this fall, i was shooting pictures all day in a block sized area or smaller...
Like stuntziville.... i was there all day in one spot camped out with all my gear...

I don't know of any pecan orchard around here.
I think the first pecan truffle was actually discovered in austin, texas, and it was named Tuber texensis (now synonymous with Tuber lyonii). There are some pecan orchards in my area, but I have to wait until the harvest season in november before they let me in. It's best to wait 10-14 days after it rains, but we've been having a drought, and weather extremes
They grow in all parts of the south, from new mexico to florida.

Well you're lucky, because the best truffles in north america are found in the willamette valley in oregon
