Plastic lids for PF TEK
    #19346253 - 12/30/13 01:09 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Hi,
I recently found plastic lids designed for wide-mouth canning jars. I'm all about the one piece convenience and am sick of throwing rusty bands/lids away. I wanna use these for standard PF TEK jars, and some with SHIPs and Tyvek filters for PF jars without a vermiculite filter. I make the holes with a soldering iron, works great (also great for making holes in your SGFC if y'all didn't know that!). Does anyone see a problem with using these? I'm guessing they will survive 60-90 minutes in a PC, but I'm only going to make a few to test first. I am also curious if they will seal well enough when tightening the lids; I can crank on the metal lids until He-Man can't even get them off. What do you guys think?

I only use plastic lids, and love them.  One piece is a win.

They won't melt BUT after cooking they will seem loose.  Thermal expansion.  I tighten very gently at that time.  Really putting it on while the jar/lid is hot is asking for trouble when it cools.

I only melt holes through the plastics because drills have a tendency to break them, and cause weaknesses.  A melted hole reinforces itself.  This last sentence is an observation by me only because when stuffing with polyfill, the ones I drilled seemed to want to crack.  It may be unfounded superstition, but it works for me
