He was one of my favorite people who commited suicide. Him and Kurt Cobain are the two big ones that I really miss. They both had so much more to give to the world but mental illness is a really rough thing to battle with, I've fought the good fight myself.
So if your fan what have you read by him? Have you checked out the documentaries on him? Have you seen the films based on him? I know it sounds cliché but Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas is still my favorite. It's hard to find (out of print) but The Curse Of Lono is #2 on my list. I've cracked open Hell's Angels and The Great Shark Hunt but didn't enjoy them as much. Politics aren't really my thing and he covered them a lot in portions of his work
Anyway, I've seen posts on him before so I think we've got some fellow fans up in this piece

Yes I love that guy. I have watched several documentaries about him, I read Fear and loathing, and a little bit of rum diaries. I love the fact that he used to ''rewrite'' what Hemingway wrote in order grow as a writer.... He was on another level and yet he was a troubled individual...
He was also in favor of Quebec independence :

Nah, he can't touch the journalists at fox news and TMZ
If you guys haven't read "The Proud Highway" Yet you should. Some of his early stuff is fucking incredible, one of my favorite short essays is one he wrote for his high school newspaper titled "Security". His prose is sparkling.

He seemed like a really cool dude to do drugs with. Can you imagine tripping with him and Johnny Depp!! lol. They were good friends and could be found by the other's side quite often throughout their years of friendship
I've even got a lyric in one of my songs that goes "I wanna smoke a blunt with Depp and Hunter S. Life is fuckin peachy with that Grape Ape in your chest"
