Better than I'm finding around here! Good shots Ran-D. Compare your Cortinarius to C. xanthodryophilus.

woooooooooo Nice! Why are you not calling the Pholiotina , Pholiotina filaris?
seems to small for Pholiotina rugosa dont think its Pholiotina teneroides
Check Spore sizes, cheilo and basidia...

It only took me about a month and 5 different locations to find all these

That was one of my first comparisons, wasn't positive though. I was all excited to bring that one home for microscopy but I ended up losing it in the woods somewhere

Byrain says there's at least 5 different species in California. I collected them, so I will eventually narrow them down.
Thanks for the compliments on the photos folks, I am slowly but surely starting to understand my camera.

Excellent photographs! I like the sharpening you applied after resizing; what method did you use?

P. rugosa (= P. filaris) P. vexans P. teneroides P. utricystidiata (Found with potted plants so far, so maybe not) P. aporos (Found in spring and primarily known to be a spring fruiter in Europe, so also maybe not)
Ofc, these are European names that seem to work pretty well, but when more collections are made and DNA examination is done they might deserve new local names. And there still might be others that are unknown...
Also, nice pics Ran-D, it'd be cool if you can save & dry that Coprinopsis next time if possible. Uljé described some lookalikes in Europe, might be worth working on.
Edit: Also, just to be clear, that is only for annulate Pholiotina, there are other non-annulate Pholiotina in CA too & annulate species do not always appear annulate...

I edit them on Flickr, which is basically like editing for dummies . They have a "sharpen" tool, I try to use it as little as possible.

Great pics Ran-d! That cortinarius is a pretty sweet find anytime, I'm digging those inocybe adeaquata as well. It is suprising to see the actual amount of species that are fruiting in these challenging conditions, it isn't a lot but definitely more than I could have guessed.

Just regular flash usually turned down to -2. I also leave my shots slightly underexposed to make up for the extra light from the flash.
