You wanna do pinks right? You can do them pf-tek if you want.
Check out this person's pink oyster pf cake grow
For better yields, I'd PC and inoculate grain, and spawn that to pasteurized straw in logs, bags, or buckets.

They're quite easy to grow, but need a lot of air. If you don't have a fruiting chamber that can provide enough fresh air they will grow not very well at all.
It looks like that person in the link I posted used a SGFC so I guess that's sufficient.

yeah thats what i have is a sgfc for my last grow, if you think my first time using verm will do just fine. which i prefer since i already have the materials. then i will take that route unless you think using sawdust would be easier/better?

I've never grown anything pf-tek style so idk. Looks like that guy did well with brf + verm regular pf mix
Oysters will grow on just about anything so I doubt it matters severely. If you add/change anything from the pf recipe, just don't mess up your moisture content.

Yep!
I would also add that pink oysters are not as CO2 sensitive as say P. ostreatus. As for moisture content, my biggest hurdle when I was first starting out was using too much water. If you are unsure, add more dry ingredients and err on the dry side.

aw yes my pink oyster pf tek. ive grown to really hate pf tek, its just some much easier to get rye spawn and inoc straw or sawdust bag & youll get better yields. pf tek does work with edibles, use the SGFC. mist twice daily & fan. Also, make sure to leave off cover for high FAE(fresh air exchange) and make sure you have higher temps if growing pinks as winter temps (60's) are to cold for them. for whatever reason when I grew yellows on pf tek they never did as well as the pinks just a FYI

on a site i read that pink oysters are pretty easy to grow. i did try cubes and i am still having a very hard time growing them. it was probably not the best decision i made to start out. i just wanted to find the most common thing people grow. i hope this turns out wonderfully well!

yea im actually growing some cubes and am having some trouble. you have to research what temps and RH they like & weather they like high FAE or not. my pinks loved the higher temps and FAE with no lid after that they took off. so its basically finding the sweet spot and what conditions your area gives you can decide which species to go with.

Oysters are easier than pf tek as they can be fruited off more selective substrates unless you supplement. Djamor is a pretty species but in my opinion it has little culinary value.

Haha. Totally subjective I guess. I like king oysters and Hypsizygus (spelling?) but yeah I'm not a huge oyster fan. The pink one (djamor) I remember as being bitter? Or am I getting confused? Loses its colour once cooked. A pity as its quite pretty.

Kings and Hypsizygus are superior, I won't disagree there! I don't get bitter from the pinks, but they do smell strange. Like pencil erasers. And yeah they do turn the color of human flesh when cooked, which is kinda weird...

Oysters are easy to grow, and PF will work fine for pinks and greys. Once you get that going I would suggest moving to straw and a larger FC. FAE is the most important pinning trigger, so keep it up as much as possible while still maintaining humidity. Be sure to post some pics!

hi guys,
kinda new here as well. my first spawn bag arrived today and i want to inoculate my first straw log. now i followed every step in the 'let's grow mushrooms' vid but in the end the host says you need to put the log in a greenhouse or fruiting chamber. the thing is, i don't have anything quite that big to fruit it in. would normal roomtemperatures (19-21C) and average humidity (not quite sure how humid it is over here, but i reckon it's pretty dry) suffice?? i'm growing yellow oysters by the way.

They will probably fruit, but not very well unless you can get the humidity up while maintaining FAE. I have taken old logs and left them in very dry conditions (I had new ones to cycle into the FC) just to forget about them and then find a nice flush later on. They will take moisture out of the substrate and they really do want to fruit. What size tubing are you using, and how long of a log? You may want to search for a Martha's closet tek.

You can get away with it, if you are there to mist with a spray bottle several times a day. They will take longer to pin, because they want humidity - but oysters want to grow so bad, even without humidity they will pin. Just mist as often as you can. Over-misting will not hurt oysters. (this is my experience, I've grown every oyster BUT yellow, they're the only ones I haven't grown, but should be similar enough) Once the log is colonized you can keep a wet towel over it to create humidity that might help them pin.

I've used most of the spawn to inoculate some grainjars. because i didn't have enough jars and i didn't want to let the rest of the spawn go to waste I inoculated a small bag of around 40 to 50 cm's long and around 30 cm diameter I guess. I've ordered the stuff to make the bubbleh as described in another tek but it hasn't arrived yet. I'll try and make a martha's closet and in the mean time use the wet towel or spray. what would be the best thing to do, wet towel or spray? I can do either one.
