Man, can you imagine modifying LSD to peak for six months!?

I think Prozac has a half life of nearly a month.

That would suck. I like things that don't last a really long time. Nutmeg lasted for like 4 days and I had enough by then.

Arguably, many people would enjoy a 6-month low or micro dose of LSD.

Just make sure you get the dose right!!

I think it's more like a week... but yeah, OP, some drugs do have incredibly long half lives. Most of them are fat soluble or adsorb to bone tissue.

That's different from duration of action, I think. For example, marijuana fits your definition, but of course you need to keep smoking pot to stay high.

It's a little of both. If the drug is quickly metabolized to inactives then it doesn't matter what its distribution is. But if those metabolites are active, then you can have a drug that is metabolized quickly but remains active for a long time.

I don't think I'd want to be high on LSD for a month though; I figure it'd get boring.

No. If you take it chronically, 6 days at the most.

The longest lasting hallucinogen I know of is BZ

Quote:

Once effects appear, their duration is typically 72 to 96 hours and are dose-dependent. Following an ICt50 of BZ, severe effects may last 36 hours, but mild effects may persist for additional days.

How about we make WEED last for 6 months instead of LSD. I would LOVE to be high non stop. I'd NEVER have a bad night's sleep and drivers wouldn't piss me off so much.

I would love it if there was a drug to counteract every other drug.

You need to drive somewhere because it's an emergency and you're drunk as fuck. Take a pill and you have no more alcohol in your system.

Ah I see the issue. Prozac has an active metabolite with a two week half life - norfluoxetine.

Benzodiazepines and opiates have such a drug... Well, they don't remove them, they block the drug's action.

Yes but not all of them have. Imagine the advantage of having an instant sober pill for alcohol? It would reduce traffic accidents, it would eliminate the hangover. It would create a be buzzed when and how long you want type of thing

That is exactly what David Nutt is working on.  A drug extremely similar to alcohol with a pill to reverse the effects.

I wonder if we can engineer a drug that when it is metabolized into another active compound, that compound is metabolized into another active compound and this goes on for about 20 cycles

Impossible. Unless you take a short release pill containing all the drugs

Some drugs are not active compounds, but are metabolized into active compounds in the body. I'm sure some have been designed that way. 20 cycles? Probably not. There's only so many changes you can make to a molecule while preserving its original functionality.

Damn. I was thinking like adding chains of metabolizable groups to the groups that are not on the binding side of the protein and getting them to like metabolize them into active compounds by water solubility or whatever it is that affects binding affinity.

Oh well
