Did I pasturize properly?

So I started pasturization of my coco coir and verm mix (7 quarts of each at feild capacity) About an hour into it, my substrate had reached 160 farenheit. I kept it at this temperature for an hour (From 3 to 4 PM), HOWEVER it fluctuated between 150-165 farenheit the entire time. A few times, it went to 180f, but for no more than 3-4 minutes at once. (This happened once) when this happened, i took my sub out of the PC, and mixed it up to distribute heat evenly. Afterwards it sat between 150-165f till 4 pm (for an hour).
I'm letting it slowly cool down to room temperature, if i take it out of the PC now in the oven bag i have it in and let it cool, will this be adequate pasturization?

What was the sub just placed in your PC and boiled or did you have it in mason jars when you pasteurized it? If you just put the sub in the PC as is and brought it to heat then that was not right and it is no good. If you loaded the feild capacity substrate into mason jars, placed the jars in your PC, filled the PC with water and heated the water until the substrate in the jars reached 160f then you are good to go.
If you haven't seen it yet there is a GREAT how to in this video. www.mushroomvideos.com If you follow this method you should be able to bring your substrate up to the proper temperature and turn the heat off and for the most part walk away.

I placed it inside of an oven bag. I didn't just dump it in, lol. I didn't use mason jars, however, i dont have enough for a 14 quart bulk sub.

with a coir verm mix you can simply throw the coir and verm in a 5 gallon pail fill the pail half way with lightly boiling water seal the lid and let it sit to pasteurize. I let mine sit over night but a few hours would likely suffice.

The last time i did this, I got a contamination. Im not ever doing teh bucket tek again, it's ridiculous, haha. Thanks for trying to help though. I'll tick to (proper) pasteurization.

no. you can do this or you can do it the right way like you are doing. bucket tek is a coin flip. proper pasteurization is much much more consistent

i think 160 is kinda hot myself i aim for 155ish so it allows for swings of temps so it never goes over 160-180 for extended periods of time.
im sure its pasteurized better than the bucket tek. id use it
you will get you temp swings better down pat the more you do it.
keep us posted

it works for me and the temp in the bucket stays around 160 for quite some time. every one just needs to find what works for them and go with that.

it worked for me for a bit too. but got hit by trich alot. went to proper pastuerization and had trich once out of probably 100+ tubs.
compared to trich during bucket tek 1 outta ten at least.
it was a no brainer to switch
how many buckets have you done?

i think it also colonized much faster and agressively once i went to proper pasteurization, i think bucket tek sterilizes the shit out of it and kills off alot of the benificial microbes
